Assistant, Associate or Full Adjunct Professor, Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology
University of California Los Angeles

Requisition Number: JPF07029

The Division of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking experienced candidates for a full-time faculty appointment in the Adjunct Professor Series (at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor ranks). Rank is commensurate upon experience and accomplishments. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and have had experience with translational work in pancreatic cancer.

The candidate is expected to participate in research related to pancreatic cancer and help with translation and reverse translation between the basic science laboratories and the clinic. The candidate may not necessarily work as an independent investigator, but may be a valued member of a research team. The position will involve teaching of trainees and/or graduate students and post docs. Faculty in the Adjunct Professor Series are also expected to participate in other professional endeavors and in University and public service.

Responsibilities for this position include performing pancreatic cancer translational research under the direction of Dr. Timothy Donahue and other key personnel at UCLA; training postdoctoral fellows, residents, and students in laboratory techniques; mentoring trainees on research projects; and grant writing. The ideal candidate will have experiences in state-of-the art techniques for molecular biology, biochemistry, tumor biology, human derived preclinical models, and clinical trial implementation all relating to pancreatic cancer. Ideally, they will have a track record of peer-reviewed research publications and been a key contributor to large collaborative grants.

The Division of Surgical Oncology at UCLA offers a state-of-the-art approach to cancer therapy through innovative surgical techniques, multi-disciplinary tumor boards, and integrated practice unit clinics. The division houses programs in pancreatic, breast, colon, and gastric cancers, as well as sarcoma, melanoma, and pseudomyxoma peritonei. The clinical and research programs are based at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and David Geffen School of Medicine. Our physicians also see patients at the UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and the UCLA Health community practice sites spanning most of southern California, the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and the Wadsworth Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition to clinical care, clinical / translational research and applied basic laboratory investigations related to the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of malignant solid tumors are prioritized. Many of our faculty have developed pioneering programs that have significantly improved the care of patients with solid tumors.

The University of California seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our commitment to serve the people of California, to maintain the excellence of the University, and to offer our students richly varied disciplines, perspectives and ways of knowing and learning.
