The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure track Assistant Professor of Art/ Graphic Design for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Within this setting, the central mission of The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) is to develop students—both majors and non-majors—into critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, compassionate human beings, and life-long learners. With a focus on professional practice and leadership through creative activity, the BFSDoArt provides students with innovative curricula incorporating relevant technologies and interdisciplinary approaches to educate students with the requisite technical skills and theoretical knowledge for competitive and successful careers as professional artists, art historians, and designers. The BFSDoArt offers interactions with visiting designers, artists, scholars, and a diverse exhibition schedule in our state-of-the-art Center for Art and Theatre galleries. Scholarship, internship, and travel abroad opportunities are also available as part of our ongoing commitment to the development of well-rounded future world citizens whose creative research recognizes both aesthetic issues and global awareness.

Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, the assistant professor of Art teaching in the Graphic Design program requires teaching entry and advanced courses in Graphic Design and/or Animation. All tenure track positions in the BFSDoArt teach a 3/3 load, are team players and carry their load in service and have active research. Assistant professors have an expectation to hold office hours on campus and will attend all area and departmental meetings. This position is a tenure track, academic year (10-month) position, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned MFA in Animation/ New Media, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2022.
  • Ability to teach all levels of animation
  • Working knowledge of Macintosh and Windows operating systems
  • Demonstrated expertise in 2D and 3D animation, preproduction, and visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency in ToonBoom Harmony, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Substance, and ZBrushCore/Blender.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with augmented reality, and virtual reality (AR/VR)
  • 3D modeling, aesthetic development, technical animation
  • Storyboard development
  • Demonstrated multi-disciplinary approach
  • Professional animation industry experience
  • Experience teaching graphic design courses

    Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
  • All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
  • Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
  • Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
