Position Objective

As Assistant Teacher, you will provide children with a welcoming and creative learning environment while drawing from your experience and knowledge of Early Achievers and NAEYC guidelines. You will collaborate and engage with resourceful and dedicated team members as you explore just what it means to be an excellent assistant teacher. The Hayes team is all-in for the children and parents of our campus and community.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Follow and implement daily routine care based on Washington State Licensing regulations, Early Achievers criteria and NAEYC Standards.
Tasks Include:

  • Understand and demonstrate developmentally appropriate practice with children to support their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and individualized needs.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures for indoor and outdoor learning environments.
  • Implement Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold to include: preparing classroom documents online and conducting parent conferences in absence of the Lead Teacher
Duty: Communicate with a diverse population of adults and children and document/file accordingly.
Tasks Include:
  • Build relationships through individualized communication with families through phone, email, and in-person conversations.
  • Address concerns/issues of children in partnership with families, Lead Teacher, Program Manager, and Center Director.
  • Implement positive interactions and guidance techniques with children based on the classroom environment, family culture, and circumstance.
  • Track, document, and file paperwork on a weekly basis or as needed.
  • Communicate with parents, children and coworkers on a regular basis via telephone, email, and in-person.
Duty: Provide technical support for Early Care and Education students, work-study, and volunteers.
Tasks Include:
  • Model appropriate language and interaction between children and adults, and intervene to support when needed.
  • Coach and mentor students in accordance with center policies.
  • Partner with ECE Instructors and Program Manager regarding student behavior and ongoing progress.
Duty: Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
Tasks Include:
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops to meet licensing, Early Achievers, and NAEYC Standards.
  • Conduct weekly classroom team meetings.
  • Maintain required certifications for licensing.
  • Participate in CPTC campus meetings and training.
Duty: Perform other duties as assigned.
Tasks Include:
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Manager or Center Director.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 30 hours of basic STARS training or be willing to obtain within the first 3 months of hire.
  • Experience working with young children.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Initial ECE Washington State Certificate
  • 1-year experience working in a licensed childcare facility
  • Knowledge of Early Achievers
  • Knowledge of NAEYC Standards.
