Yakima Valley College seeks innovative adjunct English Instructors for the Yakima and Grandview Campus committed to community college students and their success. This position is part-time, non-tenure track.

Reporting to the Dean – Arts and Sciences, the English Instructor will be culturally competent with commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilize appropriate technology in the classroom, and have a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Arts and Sciences Division. We value opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, find ways to utilize cooperative learning, and are utilizing various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.

Essential Tasks

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Earned Master's degree in Earned Master's degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric OR a graduate degree in a related field that focuses on writing or literature from an accredited institution
  2. Demonstrated successful teaching experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Practical experience in applying contemporary composition theory to teaching
  • A bachelor's degree and/or graduate work in a second discipline
  • Successful community college teaching experience
  • Background in teaching all levels of composition, from developmental to transfer level, literature, reading and/or ESL and ELL
  • Experience or interest in using a variety of student-centered instructional and assessment techniques (e.g., portfolio, collaborative teaching and learning, interdisciplinary partnerships, computer-assisted instruction)
  • Experience or interest in curriculum development and assessment and outcome-based learning
  • Successful experience advising students, developing course material and schedules

JOB PROFILE:

  • Provide instruction in a variety of English courses including developmental and college level composition.
