Yakima Valley College seeks innovative adjunct Geology Instructors committed to community college students and their success. This position is part-time, non-tenure track.

Reporting to the Dean – Arts and Sciences, the adjunct Geology Instructors will be culturally competent with commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilize appropriate technology in the classroom, and have a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Arts and Sciences Division. We value opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, find ways to utilize cooperative learning, and are utilizing various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.Essential Tasks

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Geology
  2. Demonstrated successful teaching experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching Geology Courses
  • Experience and/or evidence of willingness to work in a participatory collegiate community college population (e.g. committees, college activities)
  • Experience using a variety of classroom methodologies (e.g. assessment, collaborative learning classroom technologies, interactive teaching)
  • Commitment to the community college philosophy and life-long learning
  • Evidence of sensitivity to understanding the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Qualifications

JOB PROFILE:

  • The primary responsibility of this position is to survey courses in Geology, which are included on the Natural Science Distribution list for the college transfer degree
  • Additional responsibilities include a commitment to systematic classroom/department/college assessment and improvement, preparation of class materials, course and curriculum planning, and availability for student consultation outside of class on a daily basis
  • Other responsibilities include maintenance of high expectations for students, ordering textbooks and audiovisual materials, assessment and evaluation of individual student progress, maintenance of student records, referring students to other appropriate college staff as necessary, and demonstration of student-centered values consistent with the community college philosophy. The Geology instructor reports to the Dean of Arts & Sciences
