Position Description
Seattle University has an exciting, dynamic opportunity for an Accounts Resolution Specialist to join our community. This position will initiate and coordinate financial aid, account receivable and collection activities, especially with past due student accounts and student loans.
The position summary is as follows:

  • Provide customer service over the phone, via email, or in person to students and their parents, especially concerning delinquent student accounts or loans.
  • Communicate with current and former students, and parents of students, who have delinquent accounts.
  • Research registration, financial aid disbursements and payment issues to determine if student is responsible for charges.
  • Provide due diligence in notifying students about debts, due dates, and consequences of late or non-payment
  • Establish and maintain process for tracking delinquent accounts.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Data entry, process payments and generate mail merge notifications.
  • Engage in skip tracing to identify communication methods to former students.
  • Actively engage in proactive communication via phone, email and mail with current and past students with delinquent accounts.
  • Assist in maintaining financial health of university by maintaining accounts, writing off or assigning accounts and maintain records in accordance with statute and good practice.
  • Run processes to print bills and authorize refunds for students.
  • Refer delinquent accounts to collection agencies.
  • Coordinate assignment to and retrieval of delinquent accounts from collection agencies. Maintain communication with collection agencies, loan servicer and lenders to assure that agencies are providing good service to students and University. Assess effectiveness of third-party agencies contracted by the University.
  • Process NSF checks and reconcile daily batches.
  • Document procedures and policies, providing a record of and calendar of activities including major projects.

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Provide assistance to Student Financial Service Representatives for taking payments and accounting for receivables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School degree and three years’ experience in clerical or customer services positions (at least one year experience in financial aid or student accounts) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills being able to respond (in English) politely and carefully to address sensitive topics related to personal financial situations either by phone, email, or in-person.
  • Skilled in standard mathematical computations sufficient to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfortable using technology that includes a variety of systems, tools, and software.
  • All candidates must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
  • The candidate must be able to successfully complete an online computer skills assessment administered by the Office of Human Resources. Software included in the assessment: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Windows, MS Outlook and online browsers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience with account collections
  • Prior experience using Ellucian Colleague ERP

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $41,100 - $45,400

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that representsits good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at thetime of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will bedetermined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selectedcandidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equityconsiderations, and available market information, and not based on acandidate’s gender or any other protected status.
