The Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation (IDD&E) Department in the School of Education at Syracuse University is seeking a dynamic colleague to fill one full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant or Tenure-eligible Associate Professor faculty position. 

This position is part of a broader Syracuse University Cluster Hires Initiative. The Virtual and Immersive Interactions (VII) research cluster draws together a diverse group of scholars across education, the social sciences, humanities, the arts, and STEM, as well as the research and design of digital and experiential methodologies, technologies, and practices that enhance research and teaching. 

Aligned with this research cluster is the School of Education’s new Center for Experiential Pedagogy and Practice, engaging faculty and students in both basic and applied research and design initiatives, using multiple digital pedagogies to advance experiential teaching and learning. The faculty hired into this position will build upon our existing and emerging strengths in this cluster area, and will participate in an organized research cluster that spans multiple departments in the School of Education and across the University. 

The School of Education is committed to inclusive and antiracist pedagogy and practice in the preparation of professionals at all levels, in U.S. and international communities. Aligned with this commitment, we seek an individual with strong expertise and research interest in (1) instructional design and (2) topics related to design of instruction to support deep learning with the integration of immersive, interactive, and emerging technologies. The new faculty member will primarily teach courses related to instructional design and technology sciences for Master’s and Doctoral students, both on campus and online, and have select opportunities to teach courses in support of undergraduate programs. There will also be many unique opportunities to participate in the integration of instructional systems and technology across a collaborative and technologically sophisticated campus. IDD&E has a distinguished history of domestic and international research and development within various educational institutional settings, business, industry, health care, military, and government contexts. Required Qualifications and Responsibilities: A doctorate in instructional design, instructional technology, or closely related field. It is expected that candidates will have extensive practical experiences in applied field-based design and program evaluation; at least two years of experiences in higher education or business/government, with desired experience in university teaching and student advisement; a strong research agenda related to instructional design, a proven record of scholarly publications, a professional network of domestic and international colleagues, and entrepreneurial leadership abilities.  We are especially interested in applicants with a demonstrated teaching breadth that includes instructional design foundations and best practices, technology integration practices, and interaction and engagement theories and principles. We look for colleagues to make substantial collegial contributions in sponsored research, thus funded grant writing experience is preferred.  It is expected that this faculty member will teach within IDD&E, pursue a research agenda, and provide service to the university, school, department, and relevant professional communities. To be considered for the Associate Professor with Tenure position, required qualifications further include: Evidence of a sustained research trajectory and evidence of funded research activity; Experience in developing or expanding course offerings in designing and developing immersive teaching and learning environments; and evidence of leadership at the university and/ or national level.  

Responsibilities for either the Assistant or Associate Professor level position include: Pursuing a sustained research agenda along with seeking external grant funding; Teaching primarily graduate courses; Advising MS and Ph.D. students; Participating in service to Syracuse University, School of Education, IDD&E, and professional learning communities.
