10-Jan-2022 Close All Job SummaryResearch Computing in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has a new position for a Cloud Security Analyst! This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly visible and important effort in support of our research institutes in a new position, on a new team, providing a new and important service! Reporting to the Associate Director of Public Cloud and Enterprise Cloud Architect, this position will be a key contributor to the operations of public cloud environments across CU Boulder.
The Cloud Security Analyst will analyze public cloud technology options across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud platforms to assist the OIT Public Cloud Broker team in building appropriate guardrails and controls for the storage and processing of secure data. This position will also analyze security alerts and respond to threats across the CU Boulder public cloud environments.

  • Monitor the CU Boulder public cloud environment for threats and provide response support to address active events. This will include such diverse tasks as performing security and compliance assessments; implementing and managing tools to assess our security posture on an ongoing basis; work with development teams in the timely resolution and root cause analysis of service incidents; creating requirements and stories for the Cloud Broker Agile team to continuously improve our security posture.
Cloud Engineer:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the technical components of our Cloud Broker service. This will include the full development cycle from overall engineering, through integration, test, and deployment. Technical components of the Cloud Broker service include Infrastructure as Code, Continuous Integration and Tests, Deployment Tooling, and Applications. This role will also assist with engineering, facilitation, and implementation of the hybrid-cloud model as defined by the emerging OIT Cloud Strategy.
  • Participate in the Agile team supporting public cloud technologies.
  • Facilitate technical planning activities, providing analysis of implementation plans and their impact on budget, staffing, and existing infrastructure.
Evaluate Potential Technologies:
  • Investigate new technologies that support our tactical and strategic objectives, testing and evaluating their applicability to key organizational and program objectives.
  • Stay abreast of new products or techniques that will help the Research Computing Security team continue to achieve our goal of providing a secure environment for our research institutes.
  • Anticipate changes to infrastructure, advances in technology, and changes in regulatory expectations that may create performance constraints or opportunities to achieve system objectives.
Contribute to open and community source projects:
  • Make use of open and community source projects in support of the Cloud Broker service, interacting positively with these projects and contributing back bug reports, fixes, and enhancements.

  • This position will be primarily remote with occasional team meetings on the CU Boulder campus.
What We Can Offer
  • Annual salary range for this position is $90,000 to $104,000.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. A combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • 2 years’ experience with cloud services and technologies (AWS, MS Azure, GCP).
  • 2 years of experience in scripting and automation or application development.
  • 1+ years of experience managing systems to meet compliance controls (e.g. FISMA, NIST, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, etc.).

What We Would Like You To Have
  • Public Cloud provider security experience and certification (e.g. AZ-500, AWS Certified Security – Specialty, Google Cloud Security Engineer).
  • Cloud Workload Protection Platform (CWPP) or Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) experience.
  • Experience monitoring and managing the security operations of enterprise systems and applications (CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Azure Monitoring, Security Center, Sentinel, Log Analytics).
  • Experience with IT security, networking, system design, and data privacy best practices.
  • Experience with UNIX, Linux, Windows, or database administration in an enterprise or research environment.
  • Understanding of networking, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Understanding of firewall and load balancing technologies.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc).
