Job Description Summary:

This position is a hybrid role. The successful candidate is expected to perform the functions of a dispatcher and a security officer depending on the needs of the university. The candidate will be cross-trained in both roles.

Security Officer Job Description: Campus Security Officers are responsible for the safety and security of the students, faculty, staff and visitors to Husson University. Security Officers also maintain a safe environment and minimize potential for loss or damage on all property controlled by Husson University. Security Officers maintain the security of our Campus by patrolling areas on foot and in University vehicles and by enforcing Husson University rules and regulations, Community Conduct Code and state statutes. Security Officers are required to recognize potential safety concerns and to take measures to mitigate these concerns. Security Officers respond to disturbances and mitigates disruptive conduct and responds to emergency situations as needed. Security Officers also coordinate with all local, county and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of the Campus.

Dispatcher Job Description: Security Dispatchers facilitate communication with officers, directing them to respond to requests for service and also providing information to them. Security Dispatchers help to maintain officer safety by monitoring officers’ situations. Security Dispatchers are required to recognize potential safety concerns and to take measures to mitigate these concerns. Security Dispatchers monitor disturbances and emergency situations as needed. Security Dispatchers also coordinate with all local, county and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of the Campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of Security Officers at Husson University include, but are not limited to:
• Attend and/or complete all departmental and University training requirements
• Maintain a complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies & procedures
• Maintain a complete awareness of Husson University Campus property, life safety systems and emergency plans including the proper use of fire extinguishers
• Maintain the confidentiality of all departmental and University information and paperwork
• Perform lead Security Officer duties in the absence of a supervisor
• Be well groomed and wear the proper issued uniform
• Maintain all issued duty equipment
• Use a two-way radio and utilize proper radio protocol to maintain FCC & NIMS compliance
• Provide prompt, courteous service to students, staff and visitors
• Review the Omnigo system to ensure familiarity with relevant information necessary to perform their duties
• Patrol University property to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, theft and life safety concerns and maintain safety during Campus events
• Ensure all necessary doors and buildings are properly secured
• Ensure resolution of any safety concerns noted during your shift
• Monitor and regulate as necessary building systems including building boilers as well as refrigerator and freezer units
• Monitor CCTV and review as necessary for security and investigations
• Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions and provide information
• Enforce University rules & regulations and notify violators of infractions including issuance of parking tickets
• Escort student, staff and visitors to various locations on Campus and provide protection as necessary
• Investigate suspicious activity, security issues and criminal incidents. Gather and process necessary evidence and properly document in verbal and written reports
• Respond to accidents and medical emergencies and provide First Aid and CPR
• Respond to disturbances and emergencies on University property
• Write incident reports
• Coordinate emergency situations until a supervisor arrives on scene
• Contact the AVP of Safety and Security or designee as needed for emergency situations
• Contact local police and fire departments as necessary and act as a liaison between these agencies and the University as needed
• Escort and remove necessary persons from Campus
• Apprehend suspects and use departmentally approved restraint techniques as necessary
• Assume operational leadership and patrol supervision in the absence of superior officers.

  • • In the absence of the AVP of Safety and Security, be prepared to activate the Emergency Warning System upon orders from senior university administrators to include:
  • University President, University Provost, University Vice President of Administration, and Director of Campus Safety and Security.
  • Assume responsibility of department/university Lost and Found program.
  • Maintain lost/found journal.
  • Maintain inventory of found items and attempt to return to owners.
  • Dispose of found items according to department policy.
• All other duties as required

Responsibilities of Dispatchers at Husson University include, but are not limited to:

· Work a full-time schedule and special occasions as necessary· Attend and/or complete all departmental and university training requirements· Maintain a complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies & procedures· Maintain a complete awareness of Husson University Campus property, life safety systems, and emergency plans including the proper use of fire extinguishers· Maintain the confidentiality of all departmental and University information and paperwork· Maintain proper hygiene and wear the proper issued uniform· Appropriately maintain all issued duty equipment· Use a two-way radio and utilize proper radio protocol to maintain FCC & NIMS compliance· Provide prompt, courteous service to students, staff and visitors· Must have appropriate report writing skills, as well as the ability to utilize electronic reporting systems· Monitor two-way radio traffic, both university and Bangor Police and Fire· Report fire alarms to Bangor Police and Fire Dispatch· Monitor CCTV and review as necessary for security and investigations· Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information· Keep daily dispatch log of calls, events, and activities· Pass information to appropriate parties· Create digital and hard-copy documents and forms as needed· Maintain documents pertinent to dispatch· Perform daily inventory of first responder keycards and maps· Coordinate emergency situations until a security officer or supervisor arrives on scene· Contact management personnel as needed for emergency situations· Contact local police and fire departments as necessary and act as a liaison between these agencies and the university as needed· Develop and maintain working knowledge and capability to use all Safety and Security systems and technology platforms (i.e. POMCO, EagleSafe App, Omnigo, etc.)

· All other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • High school education or equivalent and at least 6 months security, military or law enforcement experience.

Must have attention to detail and respond promptly and professionally when necessary. Be able to prioritize, organize and follow-up when needed. Have a clear command of the English language and be able to complete computer generated reports. Be a clear thinker, display the ability to remain calm and show good judgment when resolving problems. Follow directions thoroughly, speak and interact with students, staff and visitor as necessary, work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of departmental and University information.

Perform supervisory duties in the absence of a supervisor.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able, available, and capable of working all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Must be able to exert physical effort including foot patrol and restraint of individuals as needed. Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods.

Preferred Technical Skills:

Have or have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED, Bleeding Control
