Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

This position will install, repair and maintain doors, floors, windows, ceilings, drywall, concrete structures and building exteriors. The Carpenter position should be journeyman level with knowledge of the standard methods, equipment, materials tools and practices of the carpentry and painting trade. This position will also be the campus locksmith installing locks, door, knobs, and building hardware and cut keys while maintaining the Campus master key system. The position will clean and prepare and surfaces, and paint exterior and interior walls and ceiling of buildings. This position will perform other functions related to the general activities in facilities operation and maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, equipment, materials, tools and practices of carpentry and painting trade. Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to successfully manage hazardous waste satellite facility. Ability to effectively supervise skilled and semi-skilled workers. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and university personnel. Skilled in the use of standard tools and equipment of the trades.

Physical Demands:

Use hands to reach and handle tools and objects; climb ladders and scaffolds; work from heights; lift up to 50 pounds; drive fork lift and vehicles.
