Nature of Work

This position will work within the Division’s broad Endocrine Neoplasms Research Program (thyroid, adrenal, pituitary and neuroendocrine tumors) with research focus areas in genetics/genomics/epigenetics, cancer metabolism and tumor immunology.

This position will focus on a deeper understanding of aggressive and indolent behavior in endocrine tumors.  This position will be responsible for the development of novel research methods, conduct experiments using in vitro and in vivo approaches, project planning, data interpretation, authorship of presentations and publications, lab management, and training personnel.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversight of a database and tumor banks
  • RNA and DNA analyses of different endocrine tumors and cell lines (RNAseq, whole exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing, epigenetic analyses)
  • Cell culture
  • Conducting experiments using techniques including drug treatments, western blots, shRNA/CRISPR, qPCR, protein/RNA/DNA extraction, cloning, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, cell imaging, mouse experiments and dissections, leading the development of new cutting-edge techniques
  • Mouse models on endocrine cancers: primarily human cancer cell xenografts and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models
  • Writing of scientific manuscripts and grants
  • Training lab personnel of all levels
  • Preparing laboratory data for discussion and presentation
  • Attending and presenting at laboratory meetings and research conferences

The employee will report to Dr. Bryan Haugen

This position will directly supervise PRAs and mentor trainees.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

Instructor: $66,000 - $80,000

Assistant Professor:  $81,000 - $90,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Research Instructor: 

Minimum Qualifications  

Education:

  • MS in molecular biology, cellular biology, cancer biology or related fields. 
Applicants must have experience in the following techniques:

  • Molecular biology
Preferred Qualifications

  • Animal handling and animal experiments
  • Experience with in vitro mechanistic and in vivo translational models.
  • Experience with statistics and bioinformatics
  • Experience with RNAseq, whole exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing
  • Previous experience in a lab manager role
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and as apart as a team to support research projects, including experimental design, development of protocols, troubleshooting, interpretation of data, and planning the next steps.
  • Ability to keep detailed and accurate electronic records
  • Ability to work well with others
