CU Innovations has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Data Management Program Director position.

Department Summary: CU Innovations is working with researchers and clinicians to discover new treatment options, medical devices and innovative technologies to improve the lives and outcomes of patients. CU Innovations works directly with researchers, clinicians and external partners at the University of Colorado, and staff at UCHealth and at Children’s Hospital Colorado to commercialize their innovations. Job Summary: Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities.  Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Program Directors are responsible for the ongoing leadership and oversight of a program or function, including the Development of strategies and processes which contribute to the University and/or campus mission and accountability for services provided.  These positions typically do not supervise others.

The Data Management Program Director is responsible for the design and development of the Innovations data platform, which includes the core data management functions: storage, security, modeling, integrations with internal and external systems, and the preparation of data for exploration, research and analysis.  In addition, the Program Director will be a key leader in vendor selection and negotiation and will collaborate closely with data science and analytics managers to lead development and implementation of data delivery methods. 

The Data Management Program Director will report directly to the Medical Director at CU Innovations and will work closely with Innovation leadership to define specific project scope, process and deliverables.  They will collaborate with and accept guidance in achieving project goals from key experts on data science, compliance, IT and other enabling areas of expertise on the CU campus and will work closely with data and informatics experts at UCHealth as well. 

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Analyzes the data needs of organization
  • Research and properly evaluate sources of information to determine possible limitations in reliability or usability
  • Apply sampling techniques to effectively determine and define ideal categories to be questioned
  • Refer to previous instances and findings to determine the ideal method for gathering data
  • Development of secure and when appropriate, HIPPA compliant, data marts with cutting edge data models and ability to integrate multiple types of data from multiple sources
  • Oversee all operational and strategic aspects of data management, especially regarding product development and decision-making
  • Lead team and handle data management to develop, implement, and complete projects while ensuring a high level of data quality based on regulatory standards
  • Manage resources and the budget, develop dashboards and metrics to show the status of data governance and quality
  • Oversee the collection of information into the business data warehouse, build analytic solutions using various big data techniques and tools, and document these solutions and the technical data architecture.
  • Providing guidance using best industry practices, working with many client databases, and interpreting flag codes.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 7+ years overall data management experience with leadership experience in both industry-based health care data management as well as academic health care data management
  • Bachelor’s degree in informatics related field
Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years overall data management experience with leadership experience in both industry-based health care data management as well as academic health care data management.
  • Master’s degree in informatics related field

Must have successfully led direct reports or project team members in previous positions. Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $185,000 to $200,000. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation. 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
