Job Description

The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) is seeking a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor to contribute to the instruction of graduate and undergraduate students in the Health Services Leadership and Management (HSLM) Specialty in the department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health and to support a NSP II Grant to increase the number of prepared nurse leaders and educators for the State of Maryland. This position will focus on delivering consistent, high quality, course content to HSLM students. The purpose of the Grant is to increase the number of RN-BSN, RN-MS and BSN-MS prepared nurses to serve as hospital-based Clinical Instructors, Faculty, Preceptors and Mentors prepared to expand clinical access for nursing students across the State of Maryland. Using online programs focused on health services leadership and management, evidence-based practice, the Grant addresses the need to fill expected vacancies in the nursing workforce and to reduce the nursing faculty shortage. The Grant includes academic-service partnerships with 10 Maryland hospitals across the State.

UMSON enrolls more than 1,900 students in its baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs. UMSON is part of the University of Maryland graduate professional campus that also includes the schools of medicine, dentistry, law, pharmacy, and social work. Its interdisciplinary graduate school has more than 40 programs in the biosciences, law, and social work, and is one of the fastest growing biomedical research centers in the nation. The unique composition of the campus enables health professionals to address clinical care, public policy, and social issues through multidisciplinary research, scholarship, and community action. Its location in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C.-Annapolis triangle maximizes opportunities for collaboration with government agencies, health care institutions, and life science industries.

UMB will require all faculty, staff, and students to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions for medical or religious reasons will be process through Human Resources.

 

Essential Functions:

    Develop, organize, deliver, and evaluate HSLM leadership courses and precepted practicum experiences. Collaborate with HSLM team to increase the number of RN-BSN, RN-MS and BSN-MS prepared nurses to serve as hospital-based Clinical Instructors, Faculty, Preceptors and Mentors prepared to expand clinical access for nursing students across the State of Maryland. Uses evidence-based best practices for educating students. Advises and mentors students. Participate in a program of scholarship. Contribute to faculty governance. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or DNP)
  • Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of Maryland
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing clinical leadership level and administrative experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing faculty experience
  • Leadership/Management experience
  • Healthcare finance experience is preferred
