General Description / Primary Purpose:

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, invites candidates to apply for the open position of Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies. We seek a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of modern French and Francophone Literature and Culture (19th-21st centuries), to start August 6, 2022. Applicants with a record of outstanding teaching in French language and whose scholarly interests focus on contemporary France, Global France, French and Francophone literatures and cultures are strongly encouraged to apply. A PhD in French and Francophone Studies (completed by August 6, 2022) is required. The teaching load is three courses per semester and will include all levels of French language, literature, and culture.

We welcome applications from candidates whose research has a strong interdisciplinary focus, with a secondary area of expertise in Digital Humanities, Visual Studies, Ecocriticism, Media Studies, or Gender Studies.

Faculty Position Required Qualifications:

A PhD in French and Francophone Studies completed by August 6, 2022, is required.

Departmental Requirements:

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and will be expected to actively contribute to scholarship in the field of modern French and Francophone literature and culture. Native/near-native fluency in French and English, and experience teaching French at the college-level are required. The teaching load is three courses (9 credit hours) per semester and a typical course assignment includes French language instruction (all levels) and courses in culture or literature as part of the interdisciplinary French and Francophone Studies B.A. We encourage applications from individuals committed to mentoring students and engaging with the wider university community and working with the College’s interdisciplinary studies programs and institutes.
