General Description / Primary Purpose:

The Coordinator Academic Support Services (Study Abroad Advisor: Semester), under the direction of the Director of Study Abroad, advises students on academic decisions in relation to Coggin College of Business semester exchange programs, dual degree programs, and affiliated internships overseas; provides consistent academic support for these students before, during and after their time abroad: from pre-departure to re-entry; evaluates and makes recommendations on policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs; liaises with international partner institutions as well as Coggin faculty, chairs, deans, and other departments; handles marketing and recruitment for aforementioned programs; represents International Business Program in absence of Directors.

Job Function:

STUDENT ADVISING: Advise students participating in Coggin College of Business international exchange programs for a semester or more, including dual degrees and select internships abroad. Advise primarily on academics and determining how courses will count toward students’ degrees. Work with academic department chairs/program directors to determine UNF equivalents of courses taken at all semester exchange partner institutions, and maintain course equivalency database. Collaborate with various UNF offices to ensure timely and accurate processing of the following: study abroad student financial aid posting, tuition deferment, transcript posting, degree evaluation substitutions, and more. Monitor semester/dual degree/internship abroad student accounts to ensure enrollment in appropriate courses each semester.

INTEGRATED SUPPORT: Coordinate delivery of the 0-credit GEB4940 Study Abroad course for semester exchange students. Conduct academic- and cultural-competency-based pre-departure orientation for all semester exchange and dual degree students, including focus on cultural adaptation and making wise choices abroad. Conduct reflection and career-focused re-entry session upon students’ return to the U.S. Continually evaluate and redesign aforementioned workshops based on evolving academic and industry environments and student needs. Research and implement best practices in the field of study abroad.

MARKETING/RECRUITING: Develop and implement annual marketing plan for semester exchange and dual degree programs, including print, social media, in-person presentations, and more. Create, manage, and maintain relevant web pages. Collaborate with Study Abroad Advisor (short-term programs) or organize study abroad fairs each fall and spring semester. Represent Coggin College of Business study abroad opportunities at several events each semester, e.g., classroom presentations, IB major workshops, orientations, Week of Welcome, International Education Week, National Study Abroad Day, etc.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Manage existing – and assist in development of new -– semester abroad programs. Correspond with intercultural acumen daily with colleagues from all around the world to maintain strong institutional relationships and gather necessary information for effective student advising. Co-facilitate the Coggin Delegation international buddy program and supervise student interns in the office each semester.

SAFETY & SECURITY SUPPORT: While this position is not the primary UNF point person for safety abroad, the Study Abroad Advisor is oftentimes the first person at UNF contacted by partners, students, and/or parents when an issue arises with a semester study abroad student. Must be available to check email at least once a day on weekends in case of emergencies. Liaise with UNF International Center staff to ensure students have completed all compliance requirements related to study abroad.

Create new web pages, update existing pages; test/repair web pages for WCAG compliance; and upload accessible documents; travel abroad independently; represent study abroad and International Business Program at partner institutions (domestically and abroad); other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.
