Job Description Summary

The Teaching and Learning Specialist works collaboratively with a team of faculty developers and with faculty members to support teaching excellence in face-to-face, online, videoconference, hybrid, and blended instructional settings. The Teaching and Learning Specialist designs and implements both online and face-to-face faculty development programming focusing on pedagogy, curriculum, and teaching with technology for all disciplines at Saint Leo University, and conducts individual consultations with faculty to support their teaching. They will contribute to various projects and events as needed, including faculty development workshops and programming delivered on ground and online. They will stay abreast of and participate in the scholarship of teaching and learning. This position reports directly to the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

  • Work with full-time and adjunct faculty to support teaching excellence

  • Design and implement both online and face-to-face faculty development programming on pedagogy, curriculum and teaching with technology for all disciplines

  • Provide a variety of professional development opportunities in one-to-one, small group, and large group settings

  • Develop and deliver faculty development programming focusing on active learning.

  • Collaborate with team members to plan and execute new initiatives and projects

  • Pursue personal professional development in the area of the scholarship of teaching and learning.

  • Provide occasional evening or weekend trainings

  • Travel occasionally to Saint Leo University Education Centers to provide professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Master’s degree in education, instructional design, instructional technology, adult learning, or related field.

  • Knowledge of the research and theories regarding how people learn.

  • Understanding of the impact of pedagogical practices on student learning.

  • Knowledge of best practices in face-to-face, hybrid and online pedagogy and curriculum development.

  • Knowledge of instructional technologies to deepen learning.

  • Familiarity with emerging learning technologies (streaming, audience response, multimedia, collaboration tools, lecture capture, etc.)

SKILLS:

  • Experience using Learning Management Systems, preferably Brightspace D2L.

  • Experience developing online course content including training programs.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage simultaneous projects.

  • Experience with the use of web conferencing systems, such as Zoom, Adobe Connect and Microsoft Teams.

  • Experience implementing and using various educational technology tools in face-to-face, blended and virtual environments.

  • Ability to analyze and apply trends and best practices in instructional technologies and instructional design.

  • Three or more years of teaching experience, including secondary or university/college level courses in face-to-face and/or online classroom environments.

  • Experience with web design.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to communicate clearly, fluently and enthusiastically during presentations and one-on-one consultations.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with faculty and staff.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the maturity necessary to work effectively with staff of varied backgrounds, skills and personalities, in order to achieve key objectives.

  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative and is able to work independently and proactively.

  • Ability to plan and implement projects and/or events

  • Agile, responsive, and willing to shift focus as necessitated by evolving university priorities.

  • Detail oriented, analytical and accurate.
