The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biochemistry.

Within this setting, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is housed in the College of Science and Mathematics. The Department offers two ACS certified Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and biochemistry as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry. The biochemistry degree is also certified by ASBMB. The Department also offers a Master of Science in Applied Physical Science with concentrations in pharmaceutical, materials and coatings, and environmental sciences. The Department is rapidly increasing its externally funded research activities and is housed in a 47,000 square foot facility containing modern classrooms with dedicated teaching and research laboratories on the Statesboro campus and a similar facility on the Armstrong campus. The Department is composed of 45 faculty with 36 in the professor track and 9 in the lecturer track as well as 4 full-time staff. The faculty focuses on high quality, student-centered undergraduate and graduate education that prepares students for careers in industry as well as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and education. The Department is committed to both graduate and undergraduate research with the majority of undergraduate biochemistry and chemistry majors participating, thus furthering their preparedness for post-baccalaureate studies in many fields. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor position requires teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities. The position is a 10-month tenure track appointment, with a salary that is both competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.Required Qualifications: Earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Chemistry (with a biochemistry emphasis), or a closely related field, by August 1, 2022

Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
Preference will be given to candidates whose research specialization is in bioanalytical or biophysical chemistry.
Conditions of Employment:
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
