Position Description Summary:

The School of Nursing, in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University, invites applications for an anticipated full-time clinical track faculty position at the assistant professor level in its nursing program to begin January 2022.

The successful candidate may instruct at either the undergraduate or graduate level or both. The position will teach a diverse student population and may include online course delivery and travel to off-campus locations, as well as university and professional service and student advising. NIU is a diverse community of scholars engaged in research and artistry, teaching and learning. We are part of a warm friendly small town, with the bright lights and cultural amenities of one of the world’s great cities only an hour away. We provide transformative experiences for our students, and welcome candidates who enjoy helping others find their passion.

The nursing program offers a B.S. in Nursing through pre-licensure and degree-completion programs, an M.S. in Nursing with specializations in Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Education, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have a PhD or DNP in nursing (applicants who are scheduled to complete their degree by December 31, 2021 will be considered);
  • Be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Illinois;


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have national certification as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and 3 years of clinical nursing practice experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP).
  • Those candidates who have successful university-level teaching experience will be given preference.
  • Experience in pediatric nursing

Hiring Rate/Range:

Commensurate with experience and internal equity; position includes an excellent benefits package.
