20-Oct-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) Education and Outreach is hiring a program coordinator for the Girls on Rock (GOR) program to support instructor teams with broad expedition logistics. During the first half of the appointment, the coordinator will prioritize fundraising and grant writing efforts, as well as coordinate volunteers. In the second half of the program, the coordinator will focus on working with the instructor team and participants to organize the logistics for the 2022 expedition.

Inspiring Girls Expeditions has several branches that offer a variety of different expeditions all over the world.
Girls on Rock is a branch of Inspiring Girls Expeditions that is based in Boulder, Colorado. Girls on Rock offers a rock climbing and backcountry experience that highlights the instructors' scientific expertise to allow the participants to engage in their own scientific research project. We want to clarify that Inspiring Girls Expeditions welcomes cis girls, trans girls, and any girl-identified youth, as well as non-binary and gender non-conforming youth.What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Obtain permits and rent and inventory gear.
  • Facilitate instructor hiring, training, travel, purchases, and budgets, communicating with administrative offices as needed.
  • Conduct all communication with program participants from team selection to paperwork completion, including risk management documents, waivers, dietary preferences, etc.
  • Organize travel for the participants.
  • Oversee and support instructors with post-expedition mentoring, notify participants of alumni network and events and opportunities.
  • Coordinate volunteers in support of these efforts by assigning volunteer roles and tasks to the volunteer network. Follow-up with volunteers to facilitate completion of these tasks.
  • Assist Girls on Rock Leadership Board with fundraising efforts.
  • Identify potential funding sources, write grant proposals, and create publications and presentations to raise awareness of the program, including visits to local schools.
  • Act as liaison between the program, donors, and supporting businesses.
  • Coordinate communications among the GOR Leadership Board, the broader IGE organization, CIRES, and the public (including web and social media).
  • Help facilitate internal communication: scheduling GOR zoom meetings, creating a meeting agenda, and keeping time during meetings. Attend monthly IGE meetings, note that these occur during the normal workday.
What You Should Know
  • This is a part-time temporary position. The first half of the position is expected to average 5 hours per week. The second half of the position is expected to average 9 hours per week.
  • It is ideal for this position to be available to work in-person some of the time. However, remote candidates will be considered.
What We Can Offer
  • Hourly Compensation: $20.00 -$30.00.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may substitute for a completed degree, on a year for year basis.
What You Will Need
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee group logistics for field research and/or outdoor education.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain large amounts of information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and an inclusive learning environment in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and solve problems without close supervision.
  • Demonstrably strong communication skills through phone, email, and in-person, both individually and in front of an audience.
  • Ability to strategize and order tasks in the chronology in which they must occur.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Familiarity with the Inspiring Girls Expeditions organization and expeditions.
  • Experience working with an outdoor and/or science education program.
  • Experience working with local businesses or corporations to create partnerships and/or obtain in-kind donations.
  • Experience fundraising and writing grants proposals.
  • Experience coordinating and managing volunteers.
