Description:

The Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for up to two full-time tenure stream appointments in Pure Mathematics. The appointments will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.

Candidates in all areas of Pure Mathematics will be considered. The successful applicants will have the chance to contribute to the further development of Pure Mathematics at the University of Toronto and also to the further expansion of our Department in that direction in the future. They may also be able to enhance their research through collaboration with institutions outside the Department of Mathematics, such as the Fields Institute.

Applicants must have a PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter, and demonstrate a record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek exceptional candidates who would complement our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidates will be expected to mount independent, innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program.

Excellence in research will be demonstrated by a record of contributions and publications in top-ranked mathematics journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of top international stature.

Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels through a teaching dossier to include a strong teaching statement, course syllabi (for courses delivered or planned by the candidate), course evaluations, or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities that can include leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, delivering conference presentations or posters, or experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor. Professional or lived experiences that enhance the ability to teach a diverse student body are highly valued. Candidates are also expected to provide evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment as demonstrated through the application materials.

The successful candidates will also have an appointment in the tri-campus Graduate Department of Mathematics at the University of Toronto. The successful candidates will be expected to have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervisions, and to participate actively in the Graduate Department of Mathematics.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
