The Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Vermont seeks an Assistant Professor in the area of nutrition science. This 9-month tenure-track position involves undergraduate/graduate teaching and research related to nutritional epidemiology or nutrition and data analytics. The effective date of the position is August 22, 2022. The candidate must have an earned doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Dr.P.H., Sc.D.) in a relevant field such as nutrition, epidemiology, public health, or data science/analytics at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the undergraduate Dietetics, and Nutrition and Society and Sustainability concentrations, advise undergraduates, and supervise graduate students in Nutrition and Food Sciences and our allied Food Systems graduate programs. There are also professional contribution and service expectations. Potential teaching topics may include but are not limited to Community Nutrition, Nutrition Education, Nutrition Epidemiology and Introduction to Nutrition. A successful applicant will be expected to develop an independent research program that leads to publication and/or presentation in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets and to seek extramural funding for that research. Research topics are open; however, the candidate must have a background in the applications of data science or machine learning to evaluate large data sets related to nutrition and health, including interventions and consequences of nutrition and food policy on public health. Translational research that can help inform policy and practice, especially with a focus on health disparities and inequity, is particularly encouraged.
