Salary
Salary Range: $48,844 - $52,844 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours per Week
Exempt position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
Function: To provide career development assistance to UTSA students, alumni, and collaborate with campus partners in assigned areas; mentor paraprofessional staff, assigned graduate assistants, and team members.

Scope: In conjunction with Career and Engaged Learning (CEL), provide career consulting services to students, alumni, and campus partners; participate in planning and development of departmental policies.

Typical:

Consulting and Education (30%)
  • Provide career counseling and guidance, occupational information, professional development assistance, and employment search strategies for students and alumni, one on one and in groups.
  • Participate in development of and providing CEL services available to students and alumni, including but not limited to workshops, professional development programs, and walk-in hours.
  • Educate students and alumni on use of CEL-curated, new, and emerging career readiness tools and resources. Utilize advanced skills and experience to provide career consulting and assistance to students referred by campus partners; make referrals to other departments as needed. Lead teach or co-teach CEL-related courses, including by not limited to UCS Personal Career Planning.
  • Provide professional development services to students and alumni such as resume reviews, job search skills, interview preparation, mock interviews, networking, and professional workplace competencies.
  • Perform outreach, recruit and prepare students in assigned areas to participate in career-related events and to make use of career resources.
  • Assist Career Consultants in development of programs and provide guidance regarding the most effective teaching/delivery methods.
  • Conduct professional development workshops and presentations for student groups in order to assist in development of career readiness skills.
  • Provide current information about employment opportunities and trends to students through the use of local, state and federal resources.
  • Administer and interpret assessment tools in career exploration/planning sessions with students to assist them in understanding and articulating their career choices.
  • Conduct co-counseling sessions with Career Consultant team and on career development topics as needed.

Experiential Learning and Program Development (30%)
    Build strong working relationships with academic advising, success centers, departmental faculty, and staff. Support development of career development and experiential learning programs in assigned areas, leveraging CEL-curated tools to scale reach and track engagement.
  • Collaborate with success centers, advising, and academic groups to provide services and programs that will enhance retention and graduation rates; maintain awareness of changes in curriculum.
  • Develop instructional materials and methods of delivery for workshops and events. Determine the most suitable and effective methods of delivery tracking engagement with targeted groups.
  • Coordinate, assist, and participate in employer information sessions to market their employment opportunities. Recruit and market sessions to applicable students/majors; assist with tracking associated outcomes.
  • Participate in and support career expos, employer visits, and other events that increase awareness of experiential learning and career opportunities.
  • Share knowledge of resources related to labor and employment laws and guidelines with career consultants. Assess situations involving students and employers for compliance with labor regulations; elevate concerns to supervisor for action or intervention as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain presence in assigned areas (e.g. colleges, success centers) and/or office to provide career development related services.

Administrative and Resource Literacy (30%)
    Serve in a leadership or mentoring capacity for Career Consultant team members, graduate interns, and additional colleagues as needed.
  • Participate in the planning and development of departmental policies related to career development services.
  • Maintain knowledge and proficiency in technical platforms used in office and promoted to students and alumni.
  • Collect required data and assist in maintaining accurate database information. Prepare monthly reports as assigned, including but not limited to student/alumni engagement and implementation of CEL resources.
  • Under the direction of the supervisor, identify, develop, and improve procedural guidelines for office.
  • Maintain knowledge in the use of current online tools and resources that assist students with a job search and building a professional network.

Professional Development (10%)
    Seek out and participate in professional development to update skills and abilities as a Career Consultant. Participate in appropriate and/or recommended professional reading to enhance knowledge of career development and planning practices.
  • Participate in mandatory and voluntary university-hosted training and development opportunities that are applicable to the performance of job requirements and compliance.
  • Participate and stay abreast of current nationwide career development trends within assigned areas.

Periodic:
  • Assist in the review of new resources and tools as needed.
  • Assist in projects and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Required Qualifications
    • Master's degree from accredited institution.
    • Two years of experience in career development in an educational or guidance capacity with students and/or adult populations.
    • Strong knowledge of career counseling and/or coaching, including job search strategies and labor market trends.
    • Tact, diplomacy, and discretion required in all matters.
    • Must be an effective communicator, with a strong ability to relate well to students and staff, as well as the community.
    • Ability to mentor and assist in the training and professional growth of Career Consultants and graduate assistant positions.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer and Excel.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Human Resources, Student Affairs, or a closely related field.
    • Knowledge of digital career platforms.
    • Two years of experience in career coaching, advising or counseling in a university or college setting.

    Working Conditions
      Usual office environment. Some extended morning and evening hours required

    This position will be primarily located:

    Hybrid-Regularly: This position will require working both remotely and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. It is anticipated that this position will return to campus in a full time capacity in the future. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
