Position Summary

The Construction Management (CM) program in the School of Planning, Design & Construction (SPDC) at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position, with an expected start date of August 16, 2022. This position is an academic year (9-month) appointment.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach core construction management courses with a focus on real estate, and will demonstrate actual or potential scholarly research activity that advances the interdisciplinary focus of SPDC. We are especially seeking candidates who have the potential to develop a strong interdisciplinary research program with external funding in one or more of the following areas: real estate research, land development, project investment and finance, sustainable housing, real estate markets, smart and connected communities, urban economics and data analytics, disaster management, and resilient infrastructures and their impact on/from construction project management. The candidate will also engage in appropriate service at the department, college, university and community level.

The successful candidate will be part of the newly launched online Graduate Certificate Programs of the School and contribute to collaboration with the College of Business in the real estate field.

Doctorate -Construction Management or related field

Minimum Requirements

Applicants are required to have a PhD in Construction Management, Real Estate, Architecture, Civil and Construction Engineering, Finance, Business, or related field, by the position start date, as well as strong communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include at least one earned degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Architectural Engineering. Demonstrable ability to mentor students conducting research and teach at the undergraduate and graduate level in core CM areas including, but not limited to, land development, real estate finance, infrastructure, building construction, and housing. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant professional licensing or certifications, and U.S. industry experience.

The Construction Management program has a nationally recognized program that awards an ACCE accredited baccalaureate degree as well as master’s and Ph.D. Degrees in Construction Management. The program currently has 8 full-time faculty members, an undergraduate student advisor, and approximately 200 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students. This position provides exceptional opportunities for individuals who wish to be associated with a well-established program with strong university, industry and alumni support; and with rapidly developing research and outreach opportunities. The School of Planning, Design, and Construction unites four academic programs related to the built environment: Construction Management, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, and Urban and Regional Planning, with 43 faculty and academic specialists, and 8 staff members. The School offers 8 degree pathways from Bachelors to Ph.D. – including 5 professionally accredited degrees with over 350 undergraduate and 50 graduate students. The School is jointly administered by the Colleges of Agriculture & Natural Resources and Social Science.
