Position Summary:

This position provides support to the New Media Institute and Carmical Sports Media Institute. The position will report to the directors of both institutes and operate as an integral member of the staff support team.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, fellow employees, alumni, donors, and industry contacts.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple on-going tasks and projects.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team, both independently and in groups.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Software: Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams.
  • Experience with Google Workspace: Google Calendar, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.

Lifting up to 20 pounds; some bending and stooping. Working at a computer for extended periods.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide event-planning support for Carmical Sports Media Institute programming, including lectures, symposia, professionals in residence, the Paralympic Games student bureau, and the sports media-specific study abroad program.
Create and update web site content and maintain the two sites under the Carmical Sports Media Institute’s purview: sportsmediainstitute.uga.edu and ejsgameplan.com.
Create and post content to @SportsMediaUGA accounts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Aggregate and distribute sports media-specific internship and job opportunities for Sports Media Certificate students.
Track and communicate with Sports Media Certificate alumni, including via periodic digital newsletters.
Market the Sports Media Certificate program and the UGA-Grady High School Sports Broadcast Program to high schools across Georgia, especially in underserved communities.
Other duties as assigned by the director of the Sports Media Institute.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Manage state and foundation financial accounts for the New Media Institute and TEDxUGA. Assist with monthly purchasing and reporting.
Prepare monthly donor reports. Support donor recognition and appreciation efforts. Coordinate NMI Future Fund and Advisory Council Donor campaigns.

Manage visitor schedules and related travel arrangements.

Support annual New Media Institute and TEDxUGA events. Assist with logistics before, during, and after events.

Interface with internal audiences such as students, faculty, and staff, as well as external audiences including donors, alumni, and industry allies. Aid with Professional Friday programming and ongoing industry collaboration efforts.

Facilitate student outreach and recruitment efforts for both the New Media Certificate and Emerging Media Masters. Assist with course scheduling, student advising, and student enrollment.

Organize and execute planning and logistics for New Media Institute domestic field studies.

Other duties as assigned by the director of the New Media Institute.
