Job Summary

Peer Academic Coaches are trained student leaders, within the Center for Academic Success, who assist UWG students with their overall academic success at UWG. These are currently enrolled upper-class students (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) who meet one-on-one with students to develop skills in areas such as but not limited to: study skills, time management, note-taking, goal-setting, and how to speak with a professor. Peer Academic Coaches build relationships with their assigned students and connect them to appropriate campus resources. Contact assigned students via telephone, Google Meet, and/or email.

Required Qualifications

Minimum GPA of 3.0

Enrolled in a minimum of (9) nine credit hours

Earned a minimum of 30 credit hours

Completed a minimum of (2) two semesters at UWG Superior customer service skills, positive and friendly attitude.

Willingness to work cooperatively with others.

Ability to handle confidential information with care and ability to prioritize duties.

Basic computer skills and knowledge, attentiveness to details, and good organizational skills and initiatives.

Assist students with scheduling appointments and provide information on other academic support programs offered for student success.

Must be eligible for Federal Work Study.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in leadership, mentoring, tutoring, and/or providing academic assistance to peers.

Involvement in student organizations and in the community.

Physical Requirements

Be able to lift and carry mail. Take stairs and non-stop work for two-plus hours. May have to lift up to 25 lbs. May be required to walk around campus and post flyers.

Special Applicant Instructions

Please note that two of your references will be contacted by the Center for Academic Success to complete a recommendation on your behalf. One of these individuals must be a UWG professional, such as an advisor, professor, staff member, etc. The second reference can be written by someone (not a student) whom you have worked with and can speak on your ability to work with others and be a role model.
