This transition has changed so much over the last 20 years, even 10 years, heck even from last year! It can be confusing or overwhelming for youth & their parents, to ensure they meet deadlines & get enrolled in college in the correct manner. Would you come help us, our prospective students, their families & the community as a whole to higher education?

Job Summary:
The High School Advisor assists in the development, implementation and ongoing refinement of the student intake process for high school students. They are the main contact in assisting high school dual credit students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for the stated educational goals of students and assisting in the implementation of a retention plans to assist students in progressing towards degree completion. 

Quick Glance of Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Assists high school/homeschool student, their parents and counselors to navigate the admissions process by providing information and answering questions from & through all avenues. Assist with the Admissions Communications plan for high school/homeschool students.
  2. Provides test proctoring and application assistance onsite and offsite to concurrent high school /homeschool students as needed.
  3. Enters and maintains accurate and complete student information in various systems for tracking and reporting purposes for dual/concurrent and grant programs as needed.
  4. Represents WSU TECH at parent night and informational events on and off campus to provide information about concurrent opportunities.
  5. Registers concurrent high school and homeschool students in designated and open enrollment courses upon qualification and necessary approval.
  6. Acts as liaison between appropriate Academic Advisor and student to encourage transition from secondary to post-secondary student.
  7. Capable of public speaking to groups of varying ages (elementary to adult) and sizes. Required to facilitate campus tours on a regular basis & speak/teach about college programs as well as admissions process.
  8. At all times, engages in and promotes teamwork, interdepartmental communication, courtesy, legal compliance, policy compliance, and safety in the WSU TECH workplace.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills Needed:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. In absence of Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 3 years from a combination of education, training, and experience, related to the degree and/or position will be considered.
  • Experience in college admissions and/or advising preferred.
  • Preferred skills include collaboration with students, administration, faculty and staff, and other professionals. A strong commitment to the education of students as well as outstanding speaking skills and creativity.
  • Intermediate user-level knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel are required. Knowledge of SharePoint is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with the aptitude to prioritize responsibilities. Organized and takes initiative to be solution focused.
  • An operating knowledge of Student Services software, such as Banner, is required within three months of entering the position.
  • Must have unrestricted licensure in state of Kansas to operate personal vehicle, as well as a driving record which meets WSU TECH insurance standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate program information to prospective and current students.
  • Excellent customer service skills.


Pay Rate: $18.5/hr
Schedule: M-F 7:30a-4:30p usually; South Campus mostly, some local High Schools
