Job Description

The primary role of Assistant Director of the Standardized Patient Program is to oversee and manage the UMKC School of Medicine (SOM) standardized patient program and all standardized patient simulations provided by the Clinical Training Facility (CTF). This position will manage administrative activities necessary to sustain and grow the SP program including but not limited to: coordinating and scheduling SP educational events with course directors and program coordinators, hiring, firing, orienting and training SPs, assisting faculty in writing SP cases used for assessment and education, managing SP related files and ensuring the program has policies and procedures in place. Includes scheduling and/or attending related administrative meetings, ensuring set-up and tear-down for SP events, ensuring direction is provided to learners, faculty, and standardized patients during exams and SP activities, developing and performing program quality improvement. Responsible for training SPs in role portrayal and assessment, developing curriculum to support the training of SPs in their role, and executing special projects which include contributing to faculty development as well as curriculum development for health sciences students that involve the use of SPs.

Management
The Assistant Director directly supervises the standardized patients and is responsible for the indirect supervision of other CTF staff members such as the office support assistants and operations specialists.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (or successful completion of college-level medical terminology) is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in associated field (fine arts, public health, health education and/or management) is preferred but not required.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in post-secondary education is preferred, but not required.
  • Clinical experience in a healthcare field is preferred, but not required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a standardized patient, with demonstrated competency in role portrayal and delivery of written/verbal feedback is preferred, but not required. Prior experience working with standardized patients may be substituted.
  • Experience as an actor, director, producer, stage manager and/or casting director in theatrical/commercial/film productions is preferred, but not required.
  • Management and/or business knowledge and experience is preferred, but not required.

$47,476/annum - $50,000/annum, comensurate with experience and education.
