Job Description

The Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy (MIDE) at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking applicants for a Research Engineering Technician I to perform a variety of machine shop-based duties in support of research designated to MIDE as well as additional duties for affiliate faculty in the department of Physics & Astronomy as well as departments within the School of Computing and Engineering.

In this position the candidate can expect to fulfill work requests from students/faculty/staff as well as provide design changes based on equipment capability, professional experience/knowledge, or project deadlines.

Duties:

  • Machine shop execution: lathe, mill, drill press, bandsaw, etc. for the completion of work orders requiring precision machining, assembly, mass production, or modification
  • Equipment repair and troubleshooting for the Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy to include machine repairs, component-level electronic repairs, plumbing, and other repairs
  • Review of work order designs to ensure they are within equipment capabilities. Submission of design changes will be sent to originator for approval based on design review
  • Programming of CNC systems for automated machining of parts/subcomponents
  • PCB layout with experience in HF/HV considerations, manufacturability, and assembly
  • 3D CAD drawing/design
  • Maintain a safe and secure working environment and participate in all safety training required for position
  • Promotes a team atmosphere among all members of MIDE
Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

At least two years in a machine shop operating both manual and CNC machines.

Starting salary range is $16.92 - $23.80/Hour
