Position Summary:

Instructor of Economics, Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University

The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College (WHC) of Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track Instructor of Economics position, beginning in the Fall of 2022.

The WHC is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply and to identify their strengths in this area.

The successful candidate will teach an average of 7 courses per academic year. Other major responsibilities include supervision of undergraduate senior honors theses, academic advising of the College’s business and economics students, and service on various college and university committees.

Preference will be given to candidates with a focus in applied microeconomics that will be relevant to business majors. Teaching load will include courses such as Intermediate Micro and Intermediate Macro, Environmental Economics, and Financial Economics. We also have an interest in the ability to teach one or more of the following courses: Industrial Organization, Labor Economics, Economic History, and possibly a business course, such as Management, Marketing, or Accounting.

Candidates must submit evidence of teaching excellence (for example, student evaluations) at the undergraduate level and a PhD or ABD in Economics or a closely related Business discipline from an accredited institution. Candidates must demonstrate skills in understanding cultural differences; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; the ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds; and passion about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

The Wilkes Honors College is a highly selective liberal arts and sciences college within a state university, located in the tropical coastal town of Jupiter, FL, just minutes from the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean, with easy access to premier dining, shopping, outdoors, and international travel hubs. Minimum Qualifications:

PhD or ABD in Economics or a closely related Business field from an accredited institution by time of appointment required.

Must have evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
