JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Student Activities (DSA) at the University of Connecticut announces the opening of a full-time Associate Director of Student Activities/Director of Leadership and Organizational Development (Student Services Program Manager 3). This position provides leadership, oversight, and direction for staff, budgets, programs, and services including those related to the development, planning, execution, coordination, and evaluation of all programs, initiatives, and services related to the Department’s Leadership and Organizational Development area.

Student Activities offers a diverse portfolio of educational, social, and recreational programs for the entire campus. The related programs and services reach from the classroom and residence halls to the sidelines and beyond, engaging students with unique programs and initiatives defined by their quality, creativity, and effectiveness. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs/Director of Student Activities, this position is responsible for: the management and oversight of the Leadership and Organizational Development area including but not limited to: staff supervision, strategic planning, student and organization education and advisement, policy and procedure development and implementation, budgeting, program advisement, and assessment; hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating professional, graduate, and undergraduate student staff; coordinating the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive leadership and educational program(s) for students and student leaders; the successful operation of all programs, experiences, and services including, but not limited to the Leadership Learning Community, the Leadership Legacy Experience, the Four Arrows outdoor experiential education program, ‘SOLID’ – the student organization registration, training, and support initiative, and multiple other programs and services; the development and implementation of a comprehensive, intentionally structured, pedagogically sound student and organization advisement model; providing advisement, leadership and educational support to student leaders; building collaborative relationships with colleagues on campus including Community Standards, and organization advisors; attending related events/programs; assisting in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and expenditures; providing, supporting, and participating in programs, services, and initiatives focusing on anti-racism, social justice, and the fostering of a campus community that is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive to all; assisting in assessment initiatives; serving on University/Department committees; working nights and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree AND six years of related experience planning and conducting student leadership development/educational programs, trainings, and services, one year of which must be in a supervisory role of a moderately-sized professional staff department or unit charged with carrying out cross-disciplinary tasks or functions OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience supervising graduate students and/or professional staff.
  • Significant experience advising college students involved in student organizations and leadership development programs.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying/presenting student development theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.
  • Leadership, organization, and programming skills.
  • Experience advising and/or supervising college students.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience being responsible for managing a budget.
  • Articulated commitment to, demonstrated understanding of, and/or experience working with diverse populations.
  • Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Trained/certified in the administration, presentation and/or training on various self-assessment instruments, including but not limited to MBTI, Strengthquest, DiSC, etc.
  • Experience/knowledge of ropes courses and the development and execution of other experiential educational programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures related to activities and events involving student organizations.
  • Experience/ability to conduct program evaluations and assessments.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of program management.
  • Experience building relationships with community and campus partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment on multiple tasks.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

Salary: $81,975 - $84,000 subject to candidate's qualifications and experience.
