Communications Manager

Pay Range: $43,000 annually or higher depending on experience

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Strategic Communications Science Writer Manager this position will identify, develop and write content, and coordinate photo and video assets supporting the strategic direction of the university. The incumbent will work collaboratively with University Communications and Marketing staff including a team of marketers, web coordinators, and creative services professionals, in addition to various colleges, to effectively promote the university and college goals. Incumbent will utilize project management and teamwork skills as well as showcase their ability to develop stories independently to write to specific audiences in a variety of formats, and coordinate with a team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or other appropriate fields.
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting, translating and writing technical, complex or specialized content for a general audience;
- Experience identifying, gathering and developing stories for the mass media and specialized audiences;
- Experience researching, reporting and verbally communicating;
- Experience with journalistic writing, AP style, news releases and story generation;
- Experience collaborating and working with internal and external constituents.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with media, writing news releases and pitching stories;
- Experience in project management;
- Experience in marketing communications;
- Experience working in higher education;
- Ability to understand varied fields;
- Basic knowledge of multimedia production;
- Working knowledge of web design principles, printing processes, graphics formats, and effective design and photography principles;
- Self-starter with demonstrated leadership experience;
- Experience mentoring others;
- Ability to understand content channels and repurposing of content.
