Job Description Summary:

BASIC FUNCTION:
Engage in scholarly activities (e.g., publications); receive mentorship (e.g., grant-writing); and direct projects in health services, clinical outcome studies and implementation science with focus on substance use, mental health and health broadly defined in high-risk social service, forensic and intensive outpatient settings serving adults and youth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct ongoing NIH and SAMHSA funded projects studying implementation of evidence-based practices in high need, under-served settings (e.g., correctional, community mental health) targeting risky sexual behaviors, substance use, crime, mental health symptoms, wellness.

Writing reports for funders, agency partners with support from research staff.

Oversee research staff activities.

Interact with other URI Departments as appropriate, State agencies, local health centers and universities on multidisciplinary teams.

Engage in scholarly activities with opportunities including:o Leading/ assisting with publicationso Training in and assisting with grant writingo Data analysis and teachingo Mentoring and supervising graduate students in different research related activities.o Developing own active research program under mentorshipo Interacting with national investigatorso Conference travel

Required Qualifications:

REQUIRED:

1. Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD/PsyD) from an APA accredited program or PhD in behavioral sciences or related field at time of appointment.

2. A background in behavioral clinical interventions.

3. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.

4. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

5. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

PREFERRED:

1. Experience in coordinating operations of grants with support from research staff.

2. Experience in training and/ or supervising clinical staff.

3. Prior experience in NIH-funded research.

4. Expertise in motivational interviewing and/ or cognitive behavior therapy.

5. Strong interest in publications and NIH-funded career-development.

6. Creative, able to think critically, hard-working, works independently and as part of a team.

7. URI’s main campus is located on 1,248 acres in rural Kingston, where the campus core — including a quadrangle surrounded by handsome granite buildings — is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Six miles from Rhode Island’s beaches, this campus is conveniently situated along the Boston to New York corridor. The University’s renowned Graduate School of Oceanography is located at the 165-acre Narragansett Bay Campus. Investing in the future
Since 2007, the University has invested $607 million in campus capital projects, including: a $150 million engineering complex, due to open in 2019; Brookside, another new apartment-style residence hall, 2019; a Welcome Center, 2018; the Rhode Island Nursing Education Center, 2017; Beaupre Center for Chemical and Forensic Sciences, 2016; and Avedisian Hall, home to the College of Pharmacy, 2012.
