Your opportunity:

The University of Toronto Scarborough has been a leader in Co-operative education for 40 years, combining academic study with alternating work terms. Co-operative education gives students an opportunity to test skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Arts and Science Co-op Office is responsible for preparing students in over 37 unique program areas to compete for paid co-op work opportunities. The Office also is responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university Co-op programming contributes to the development of well-qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. With a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, the department works closely with campus and employer partners to support students as they work to achieve their academic and Co-op aspirations.

Reporting to the Arts and Science Co-op Assistant Director, Services & Systems, the incumbent is responsible for marketing and communications strategies targeted to current and potential Arts & Science co-op students, new and future co-op employers, UTSC faculty partners, and other valued stakeholders. This involves the design and development of collateral, project management and prioritization, and marketing research and analysis.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
  • Advising on marketing best practices and brand-building opportunities
  • Conducting market research and analysis
  • Overseeing production operations related to communication activities
  • Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/or initiatives
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Drafting and editing content for print and/or online communication channels
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming

Essential Qualifications:

  • University degree in marketing, communications or related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of progressively more responsible experience in marketing and communications
  • Must possess proven experience developing web content and experience with social media (e.g. LinkedIn, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook) in a professional capacity to engage audiences
  • Proven track-record of successfully developing and implementing marketing communications initiatives
  • Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Technical fluency in Drupal, HTLM, PPT, InDesign and Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Google Analytics and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Must demonstrate project management skills and be capable of executing a variety of creative, persuasive, cost-effective marketing communication projects within deadlines and on budget
  • Excellent writing, proof reading and editing skills
  • Detail oriented and accuracy are paramount
  • Knowledge of AODA standards
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), research and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Highly creative, innovative, excellent judgement, strong conceptual skills, self-motivated, strategic thinker, and results oriented
  • Must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills who can also work independently to meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
