Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Columbus State University invites applications for three (3) tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2022.

The College of Letters and Sciences values cultural and intellectual diversity, and continually strives to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment. We are especially interested in applicants who can strengthen the diversity of the academic community.

Responsibilities
The position will include a workload of teaching 12 hours per semester of Mathematics and Data Science courses at undergraduate levels, research and scholarship, academic advising, service for the department and for the University. The selected candidate will join a group of 14 full-time faculty members in the department including mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators. The department offers baccalaureate degrees in mathematics, mathematics and secondary education, and applied mathematics; we are also committed to maintaining a proactive role in the mathematical preparation of K-12 teachers and are establishing a BS Program in Applied Mathematical Sciences with Data Science and Actuarial Science concentrations. Collaborative efforts between math, science, and education faculty recently led to the funding of two major grants (a UTeach replication grant worth up to $1.4 million and a Noyce Scholarship grant worth approximately $1.2 million).

Required Qualifications
Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Applied Mathematics, or an earned doctorate in Data Science field with strong foundation in Mathematics, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution by August 1, 2022; excellent written and oral communication skills; a demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching at all levels; excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; and sustainable research and publication plans. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to active learning in the classroom and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with research interest in Data Science, Actuary Science, Financial Math, Numerical Analysis, Operational Research, or Mathematics Education

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
