This position is part of the University IT (UIT) Communications team; UIT is an 800-person strong Stanford University technology department located on campus and responsible for developing and delivering on communication strategies that support the organization's mission and 100+ services. It includes curating, creating, and delivering content in traditional and innovative ways.

  • A prolific content curator, creator, editor, and strategist
    • The ideal candidate must be skillful at:
      • finding and identifying relevant and meaningful content
      • working with subject matter experts to understand the intricacies of topics that are often technical or dry
      • shaping messages so that they are engaging, action-oriented, broadly consumable and specifically directed
      • crafting change communications tailored to varied audiences (both technical and non-technical)
      • seeing the big picture and executing communication action plans that drive toward specific and measurable goals
      • guiding others to the best communication approaches and strategies for the particular circumstances and goals
  • A skilled visual communicator and multi-channel specialist who
    • values and leverages all available approaches to enhance communications, including the design of a wide range of assets and materials for use across multiple channels: email, digital ads, newsletters, presentations, and web content
    • understands graphic layout and has expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
    • create engaging internally produced videos and animations, from script writing through final edits
    • will work with subject matter experts to create customer-centric solutions that improve the end-to-end user experience, including instructional content, training materials, and technical documentation
  • A people person and skillful verbal communicator who is
    • relationship-oriented and focused not just on the immediate task at hand, but on long-term collaboration with colleagues, partners, and clients
    • proficient at clearly articulating important information (general and instructional) in all types of scenarios, from individual meetings with peers, to small discussions with senior leadership, to presentations with large client audiences

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the guidance of senior management, participates in the development and implementation of marketing initiatives, enabling programs, services, events and/or products to meet business objectives. Vendor management. Drives cross-functional collaboration across the organization.

CORE DUTIES:
  • Recommend and execute marketing strategies to meet business objectives.
  • Manage marketing plans/programs to meet business objectives, including collaboration with internal stakeholders and vendor partners.
  • Implement integrated marketing communications and brand strategy, across a variety of channels (i.e. digital and print).
  • Oversee design and production of marketing materials from inception to deployment.
  • Conduct market research, including competitive benchmarking, and analyze campaign/program/ service/event effectiveness used to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting.
  • Assess market opportunities and track market trends. Recommend marketing improvements based on findings.
  • Plan and execute events to support marketing objectives.
  • Manage vendors/consultants on specific projects.
  • Manage project/program budget(s) and coordinate invoice processing.
  • May oversee interns and other contingent staff; provide staff training.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Previous experience in product, program and/or services marketing.
  • Ability to drive cross-functional groups toward a common goal.
  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understands how to implement integrated marketing programs across channels including digital and print.
  • Experience with market research and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated problem solver.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.


What's great to have:
  • Experience in IT and/or higher ed
  • Experience producing videos and photography skills
  • Experience in graphic design
  • Experience creating and managing content in Drupal
  • Experience setting up and managing online collaboration tools like Slack, Google G Suite Workplace, SharePoint, Trello
  • Familiarity with AP style and digital accessibility best practices

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
