Job Description:

Reporting to the Chief of Staff within the Office of the President, the Director of Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the project management, sequencing, implementation, and execute support for continued realization of the strategic vision of the University. The Director works with various campus stakeholders to convene meetings, and support the overall execution of projects and initiatives and manage the day-to-day accountability of progress towards goals. The Director will have a commitment to quality control throughout the planning cycle and work across the senior leadership to make sure strategic work is prioritized and embedded into the operations and tactics across the university and its campuses.

The scope of the job may include developing project timelines and helping shape ideas and metrics, identifying and recommending allocation of resources, convening campus teams, and managing communications that celebrate victories and champion our strategic successes to external parties and stakeholders.

This role requires a highly strategic, organized individual with exceptional time management, judgment, and communication skills to join a team that is committed to creating organization-wide change for our students, employees, and the communities we serve.

Project Oversight

Ensure that strategic projects are proceeding according to timelines, meeting targets, and adhere to established operating parameters; identify solutions and negotiate changes in project scope and resources as necessary to continue progress in achieving overall objectives and timelines.

Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks and devise mitigation and contingency plans.

Act as a liaison between initiative designers and implementers on campus and university leadership, providing updates at critical milestones and inflection points throughout all phases of initiative development.

Aid in the identification of internal and external resources and expertise as appropriate to achieve project objectives.

Constituency and Stakeholder Engagement. Engage and work across all levels of university constituencies including faculty, staff, students, alumni, Trustees and community partners to ensure that all constituencies remain appropriately informed of our strategic initiatives.

Develop and deliver proposals, requirements documentation, status reports and presentations to relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement across campus. Track and report continuous improvement activities and impact.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Certification in project management highly desired.
  • At least five years of experience in progressive planning roles and increasing project complexity.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Advanced project management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment as well as lead teams.
  • Ability to juggle a vast quantity of incoming information, interruptions, and inquiries with a high level of professionalism and tolerance for ambiguity.
  • A high level of trust and confidentiality and an ability to professionally challenge conventions when necessary.
  • Intellectual curiosity, a sense of humor, and an enthusiasm for problem solving.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills and an ability to deliver timely, relevant, mission-critical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • An ability to work independently, lead projects, meet multiple concurrent deadlines, and prioritize.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage change in a demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience with project management software tracking and data visualization software (Tableau) to track and share metrics.

Salaries for new hires at Roger Williams University usually fall between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
