Position Summary

Under the Direction of the Dean of the Academic & Career Pathway for Sciences, Computing, and Engineering, the Program Dean of Physical Sciences is responsible for direct oversight of College-wide educational disciplines, programs and services within one or more of the College’s integrated academic, career, and workforce programs. The position oversees and leads multiple instructional disciplines, programs, and services to provide strong holistic learning opportunities and equitable educational/career student outcomes; emphasizes excellence in teaching and learning; promotes culturally responsive curriculum and program development; engages with industry/workforce; and supports full- and part-time faculty and academic affairs staff to ensure equitable opportunity and academic goal attainment for students. The incumbent serves as a key College contact for both internal and external College partners to ensure alignment of curriculum to community needs.

The college is seeking a bold transformational leader who will effectively navigate a large unionized multi-campus environment during a time of organizational change. Under the direction of the Dean of Academic & Career Pathways for Sciences, Computing, and Engineering; the Program Dean of Physical Sciences will lead a team of department chairs, faculty, and staff to provide integrated delivery of gateway and transfer courses in General Science, Geology, Physics, and Chemistry. This leader will be expected to incorporate higher education and community college best practices into the practices of the administrative area. The successful candidate will have direct experience and strong knowledge of best practices in implementing initiatives to address equity and opportunity gaps in the physical sciences.

This position will be responsible, with department chairs and faculty, for developing, implementing, and evaluating equitable student success in prerequisite and transfer physical sciences courses aligned with retention and success metrics. The official responsibilities are to provide broad administrative direction and leadership in the development, expansion/retraction, revision, improvement, and maintenance of a quality education program. Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Master’s Degree
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience related to the area of assignment, providing program/project management or program/project coordination
  • Three (3) years of higher education management/supervisory experience

Position GradeNStarting Salary ExpectationsMinimum $96,208 to range midpoint of $117,854. PCC currently fully funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. After one year of management or confidential service, PCC also provides a 2% contribution to a 403(b) account for eligible management and confidential personnel. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for you, your spouse/domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age, as well as partial tuition reimbursement for full-time employees at other accredited institutions.

Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsWork environment includes frequent disruptions and changes in priorities. Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Working hours may vary and occasional evening or weekend work is required. Frequent travel to other locations is required.
