Nature of Work

The Department of Immunology and Microbiology seeks full time Assistant Research Professor to develop collaborative projects with department faculty in the area of computational immunology.  This individual will contribute computational skills in mulit-omics data integration and in computational analysis of high-resolution imaging data.  

Professional Field

PhD in biomedical engineering or computational biology with a working knowledge of immunology and host-defense.

Supervision Received

The position will report directly to Leslie Berg, PhD, Professor and Chair of Immunology and Microbiology.

Supervision Exercised

Position may include supervision and training of PRA’s, graduate students and/or post-doctoral fellows as necessary.

Examples of Work Performed

The applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and implementation of collaborative projects using his/her computational skills to analyze complex multi-omics and imaging datasets, thereby contributing to the understanding of immune responses and host defense. The specific tasks include: 

  • Perform data analysis of collaborators’ complex multi-omics and/or imaging datasets; 
  • Communicate with collaborating faculty members and their lab personnel to define unanswered questions and the areas in which computational analysis will provide value;
  • Contribute to the education of department trainees in computational biology methodologies and applications to studies of immune responses and host defense;
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest methodologies in computational biology;
  • Take primary responsibility in tracking project timelines and deliverables;
  • Contribute content to, and actively participate in lab meetings and departmental presentations;
  • Organize, contribute content to, and actively participate in the writing of manuscripts and grants;
  • Present project findings at internal and external meetings and at conferences;
  • Monitor budget and prepare yearly progress reports;
Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $$110,000-120,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD degree in biomedical engineering or computational biology with a working knowledge of immunology and host defense.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of post-doctoral experience in the application of computational approaches to studies of immune responses and host defense against infections.

  • Excellent time and project management skills to handle multiple priorities and concurrent projects;

This position requires a high degree of independent action. This position is funded for two years on institutional funds. This is not an entry level position; not a statistical analyst position; or a lab scientist position. A successful candidate will be expected to operate independently. Publication of results and contribution to grant applications is expected.
