The Associate Vice President of Enrollment and Student Success (AVPESS) provides leadership that enhances the campus’ overall student experiences, from enrollment planning and management to student support and development. The AVPESS strengthens relationships with collegiate and K-12 educational institutions and community organizations, promotes cross-functional teamwork in support of retention and educational achievement, and establishes additional progressive strategies for advancing continuous quality improvement efforts in an environment that promotes and values diversity and recognizes the various needs and services required for a diverse student body.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Leadership and Vision

  • Provide leadership in the development of the vision, long-range goals and objectives for all enrollment and student success staff (Admissions/Recruitment, Financial Aid, Career Services, Academic Advising, Student Navigators, and other departments as assigned) for the delivery of a strategic and holistic enrollment management design that promotes student success.
  • Design and implement a holistic approach to outreach and recruiting that is aligned with the college mission and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Partner with the AVPSE to promote a focus on student success and builds on a culture of equity to successfully meet college strategic goals and momentum metrics related to revenue-generating enrollment, which includes retention, completion, and student engagement.
  • Develop systematic and efficient plan to leverage technology and other resources for managing prospects and applicants in coordination with College Marketing & Public Relations (CMPR).
  • Foster a unified culture of collaboration across student affairs divisions in a multi-campus environment
  • Establishes a system of communication aligned with College effort for prospects, inquiries, applicants, and registered students (in collaboration with AVPSE) that builds strong and lasting relationships, ensuring consistency with existing recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Leverage data to develop specific targets for success around enrollment and retention for all student affairs department.
  • Develops a contact management recruitment strategy that utilizes the client relationships management tool (CRM), social networking and other forms of communication to recruit students, ensuring consistent efforts with other ongoing statewide outreach initiatives.
  • Prepares and submits short- and long-range enrollment and retention goals as part of the overall strategic planning process; monitors outcomes and analyzes data for continuous improvement.

Effective Communication

  • Provides real-time recruitment/conversion reports consistent with those shared with college leadership.
  • Hold regular meetings for staff and faculty within the assigned areas to establish excellent communication; initiate and support group process and enforce goal-centered accountability.
  • Represent the College at meetings, conferences, and events, etc., as appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to promote the assigned areas to various constituencies including students, parents, faculty and staff members, alumni, and community stakeholders.

 

Budget Management

  • Receive and evaluate recommended annual budgets. Correlate budget to items necessary to implement strategic plan. Work with budget managers to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Assume accountability for overall budget management for assigned areas.

 

Personnel Management

  • Provide guidance on the search for and employment of personnel; evaluation and status of personnel; assign duties and responsibilities as necessary. Serve on interview committees, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Student Affairs and/or College leadership to lead professional development training opportunities for enrollment management staff to assist in reaching individual lead generation and conversion goals.
  • Assures assessment of functional area needs, investigates and develops alternative strategies, establishes priorities and goals, recommends implementation activities, and evaluates progress.
  • Evaluate direct reports on a yearly basis in coordination with the Vice President.
  • Effectively manage disciplinary issues in coordination with Human Resources.

 

Student Services

  • Provide process for seamless onboarding of new students, in collaboration with the AVPSS to ensure that all students receive access to all support resources.
  • Provide leadership for the design of processes, services, and offerings to meet student needs.
  • Consult with College leadership to provide enrollment services and supports for all credit and non-credit students
  • Participate as needed in student grievance processes.

 

General Administration

  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Student Affairs and/or College leadership, to ensure compliance, including preparing and submitting reports, with College policies, procedures, and requirements established by legal statutes, board policies, and administrative decisions; interpret and enforce external agencies regulations, policies, and practices (Department of Education Title IV, FERPA, etc.)
  • Provide leadership for the implementation policies, rules, procedures, and regulations pertaining to the administration of all areas of responsibility.
  • Guide and direct administrative assistant in ways to serve areas of responsibility.
  • Additional duties include facilitating emerging trends in advising and registration activities.
  • Serves on college committees associated with job functions, or representing the College as needed.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

  • Knowledge of managing student related data and reporting.
  • Must be adept at resolving individual and group conflicts.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to identify key issues and to carry forward an idea or project from conception to execution.
  • Track record of thinking conceptually and mastering complex subject matter quickly.
  • Good judgment, discretion, tact and the ability to work easily with senior leaders within the higher education, charitable, government, and business sectors.
  • Ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.
  • Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and academic programs.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations within the North Carolina Community College System.
  • Knowledge of faculty credentialing and college accreditation processes
  • Knowledge of operation and organizational structures in a multi-campus community college environment
  • Knowledge of instructional standards and curriculum requirements
  • Knowledge of theories and practices and instructional/curriculum design
  • Knowledge of basic budget management principles and practices
  • Strong understanding and ability to work with computer systems and applications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, adult or higher education, or related discipline.
  • Seven to ten years of progressive leadership experience in enrollment services. Proven success in creating and implementing a strategic recruitment and enrollment management plan.
  • Demonstrated project management skills to oversee several projects concurrently and meet deadlines effectively.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree earned or in progress
  • Leadership experience in the North Carolina Community College System
