Medical Assistant

Position Summary
  • Room patients and update EMR.
  • Administer immunizations.
  • Help with patient discharge and provide basic patient education.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for medical specialty testing and imaging studies.
  • Assist with referral coordination, ordering lab tests, and completing forms.
  • Cleaning and stocking rooms between patient visits.
  • Assisting with patient follow-up.
  • Other duties as needed.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in the use word processing and database software, a specified medical course such as Nurse Health Aid and Phlebotomy, or Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience. May require knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems.

Certified Medical Assistant Required

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Pediatric Hematology and Oncology patients.
  • Experience with insurance authorization process.
  • Experience with immunization administration.
  • Prior EMR experience, preferably with the ATHENA system.
  • Excellent phone and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills are a must.
  • Familiarity with the Children's Oncology Group, Make-A-Wish Children's Special Health Care Services, and the Sickle Cell Association.
