Special Information

This is an on-campus position located in Flagstaff, AZ.

This position is part of the Client Services team within the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. The Financial Aid Advisor Intermediate reports to the Manager of Client Services. Serves as a financial aid advisor to entire NAU student population which entails a high-level of customer service and knowledge of all financial aid programs.

Job Description

Assists with planning, compliance, coordination and advising on financial resources and support to students. Contributes to the administration of financial aid related programs such as student loans, work study employment, scholarships, grants, and new and continuing student eligibility including the planning, processing, awarding, and reporting required.

Counseling/External Liaison 55%

• Assisting/counseling graduate and undergraduate students with all aspects of financial aid.
• Financial Aid liaison to the Graduate College.
• Administer the awarding of Graduate Student waivers.
• Provide workshops for graduate students on FAFSA, financial aid eligibility, loan repayment.

Administer Program 20%

• Administer financial aid consortium agreements for the Non-Maricopa County Concurrent Education Program (CEP) Nursing Program, including determining financial aid eligibility, awarding aid, adjusting aid as necessary.

Review/Process 15%

• Review and process Budget Appeals, Contribution Appeals, SAP appeals.

Presentations 5%

• Assist with Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) presentations for all Discover NAU, Orientations, NAU Said Yes, and other visit days on the NAU campus and Phoenix Bio Med Center.

Other duties as assigned 5%

Minimum Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of professional experience related to job description.
• Any equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a financial aid office and administering federal, state, and institutional aid.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and ability to work with a diverse student, staff and faculty population.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of government rules, regulations, guidelines and procedures related to financial aid.Knowledge of higher education law, including FERPA, Title IX, HIPAA, etc.Skills in prioritizing and completing multiple tasks of varying complexity and urgency in a timely and efficient manner.Customer service skills.Organizational skills and strong attention to detail.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Works with confidential and/or sensitive information.Establishes and maintains effective working relationships. Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary

The budgeted salary amount is $38,000.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
