Description:

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of neurodegenerative disease and applicants with research focused on biomarker discovery, basic disease mechanisms, or translational research are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D or equivalent degree. Successful candidates typically have postdoctoral or clinical research experience, and strong potential to generate independent extramural funding.

Teaching responsibilities may include mentoring of graduate and medical students which are an integral component of this position.

Clinical responsibilities may include providing essential contributions to the clinical programs of the department, including substantial teaching and/or independent contributions to clinical research programs.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include wet and/or dry bench skills that are using cutting edge technologies to provide insights into aging-related neurodegenerative diseases that will inform the development and validation of novel biomarkers, or has the potential to reveal fundamental mechanisms of disease pathophysiology. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program that aligns with our institutional efforts to support basic mechanistic research that will lead to clinically actionable insights that improve the care of patients with aging-related neurodegenerative diseases.

The primary faculty appointment will be in the Dept of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine; however, there are opportunities to be aligned with appropriate Centers and Institutes at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, such as the Institute for Aging, Penn Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, Penn Neurodegeneration Genomics Center, etc.
