The Department of Pediatrics, Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect has an opening for a full-time Assistant Professor- Full Professor (Open Rank). 

Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus seeks applicants for a full-time faculty member and Director of Innovative Training and Educational Services to support the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect (“Center”)/Section of Child Abuse and Neglect. This position reports directly to the Section Head.
The Director of Innovative Training and Educational Services for the Kempe Center will oversee and execute managerial responsibility for integrating and coordinating all of the Center’s diverse training and educational programs. This will require the Director to unify training and education offerings with relevant content and collaboration from all the other Center’s Cores (Research, Policy and Advocacy, Consultation and Clinical work) and ensure that all the Center’s educational and training offerings are of the highest quality and comply with any relevant credentialing requirements.
The Center delivers training and educational services related to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect both externally to interested populations and internally at the university (for example, healthcare and other professionals, fellows, residents, medical students, and others). Familiarity with methods and principles for designing programs for groups and individuals, for assessing the effects of developmental needs and for monitoring consistency with core competencies and goals, is necessary. Knowledge of the latest instructional technologies through the establishment and maintenance of personal networks, attendance of workshops/trainings, review of professional publications, and participation in professional industry associations is desired. The Director will be responsible for introducing the latest, most innovative, evidence-based adult learning methods, constantly updating educational and training approaches within the Center to ensure maximum engagement and efficacy for learners.
The Director will liaise with various Center programs/projects to establish and maintain training metrics and to evaluate the effectiveness of training. In this collaborative capacity, the Director will partner with key stakeholders to ensure adherence and quality of educational practices, and ultimately improve the overall performance of the Center.

Examples of Work Performed:

Leadership/Development

• Advise the Section Head on training/educational priorities, funding needs, recruitment and infrastructure support for both domestic and international education programs.

• Identify and design activities that will support Center staff and faculty members’ professional development.

• Position the Center to be a leader in transforming the field by actively assessing educational/training needs in the field through interactions with potential clients and leadership within the Center.

• Analyze program data and recommend appropriate learning management systems and databases.

• Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain initial and ongoing educational and training programs across the Center. Develop training offerings that guide the field to implement practice and behavioral changes informed by research, best practices and, when possible, with analysis indicating a positive cost/benefit ratio.

• Liaise with the Department of Pediatrics in support of training/educational programs and initiatives. Interface with other various key entities and networks across campus to provide support. Work with interdisciplinary groups to support different learners and to promote education to all team members providing treatment, prevention, and support services to those affected by child abuse and neglect, including members of the community at-large.

• Ensure consistency in the delivery and application of standards and oversees the planning, prioritization, and development of new training and education programs and initiatives, ensuring consistency with the Center’s overall strategies, objectives, and needs.

• Establish and maintain connections with Center learners to foster a supportive, long-term professional network.

• Identify new learners and growth opportunities and cultivate new relationships to expand educational offerings of the Center.

 

Financial/Administrative

• Advocate for investment and improvement in existing and new educational programs and research.

• Work with other Core leaders to develop and maintain the annual operating budgets for all education programs and research activities to ensure fiscal responsibility and establish sustainable financial stability, identifying areas of opportunity, support needed, and utilization of resources.

• Serve as a representative for the Section on hospital and university committees relevant to educational activities, or as an alternate in the Section Head’s absence or as the Section Head deems appropriate. Represent the Section in national societies and/or committees.

• Liaise and collaborate as necessary to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and advocate for investment and improvement in existing educational programs.

• Interface with various stakeholders to facilitate education partnerships across the University.

 

Strategic Planning/Growth

• Implement new programs presenting more effective ways to facilitate learning. This includes looking for new approaches to teaching/training/coaching the desired skills or attributes and designing the most efficient and/or effective practices.

• Contribute to departmental and hospital-wide strategic planning efforts and assure accomplishments pertinent to activities pertaining to the Department or Hospital educational missions.

• Support the development and implementation of the use of educational technology (e.g., learning management systems, use of mobile technology, remote delivery programs).

• Promote and deliver innovative curricula, learner assessment, and evaluations of learner experiences within Center’s educational programs.

• Share responsibility for all primary educational programs in the Section (collaborative oversight with CHCO DOP Medical Education and CU GME).

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at:

Assistant Professor: $104,000- $118,000

Associate Professor: $128,000-$161,000

Professor: $156,000-$188,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
