The Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work at Florida Atlantic University welcomes applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a start date of August 2022. The Sandler School of Social Work is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and educational experience that recognizes cultural competence, cultural humility, and diversity as integral components of academic excellence within a social justice perspective. Our school has approximately 600 Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students (the largest BSW program in Florida) and 300 Master of Social Work (MSW) students. Our Doctor of Social Work program opened in August 2016 and matriculates approximately 10 students every year. We continue to see significant growth in academic programs and certificates, as well as research and community-engaging centers (e.g., Child Welfare Institute, Healthy Aging Academy, Office of Professional Development, Robin Rubin Center for Happiness and Life Enhancement).

The Sandler School of Social Work is committed to building a culturally diverse educational environment with a focus on diversifying the faculty. We are looking for candidates who will strengthen the School’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are particularly interested in applicants with teaching, practice, and research experience with underserved individuals, families, and communities in the following areas: healthy aging, mental health, racial disparity and disproportionality, and addiction. Applicants with healthy aging and mental health/addiction experience will align with the University’s I-Health and Neuroscience/I-Brain or other pillars. Applicants should be prepared to explain how their research aligns with FAU’s strategic plan, Race to Excellence (https://www.fau.edu/provost/files/approved.plan2015.pdf). Housed within the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice at FAU, the Sandler School of Social Work is committed to producing graduates and maintaining faculty who make an immense difference in the world by promoting justice and equitable outcomes. Applicants should be prepared to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, and to mentor doctoral students.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD from an accredited institution in Social Work, DSW, or earned doctorate in a closely related field (all-but-dissertation doctoral candidates who are close to completion will be considered).

MSW from an accredited school of social work and two years post-MSW practice experience.

Preferred qualifications:

Demonstrated commitment to social work values, including service, integrity, and social justice (esp., diversity, equity and inclusion).

Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Demonstrated teaching, research, and scholarship skills and a beginning record of scholarly publications.

Capacity for developing funded research.

Collegial attitude and interest in collaborating with social workers and allied professionals.
