The Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work at Florida Atlantic University welcomes applications for a full-time instructor who is dedicated to preparing social work professionals for clinical practice, social justice, and improving the lives of vulnerable and at-risk populations in the public and private sectors. The Sandler School of Social Work is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and educational experience that recognizes diversity, cultural competence and cultural humility as integral components of academic excellence within a social justice perspective. Our school has approximately 600 Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students (the largest BSW program in Florida) and 300 Master of Social Work (MSW) students. Our Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program opened in August 2016 and matriculates approximately 10 students every year. We continue to see significant growth in academic programs and certificates, as well research and community-engaging centers (e.g., Child Welfare Institute, Healthy Aging Academy, Office of Professional Development, Robin Rubin Center for Happiness and Life Enhancement).

The Sandler School of Social Work is committed to building a culturally diverse educational environment, with a focus on diversifying the faculty. We are looking for candidates who will strengthen the School’s climate for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). We seek one instructor to join our collegial team in the continuing growth of our social work programs. Housed within the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice at FAU, the Sandler School of Social Work is committed to producing graduates and maintaining faculty who make an immense difference in the world by promoting justice and equitable outcomes. Our School and University provide an intellectually exciting, collegial, and supportive faculty environment that fosters interprofessional education and practice. The successful applicant will teach a combination of social work courses in the BSW or MSW programs. It is expected that the instructor will contribute significantly to our Office of Field Education, including but not limited to interviewing students for internships, coordinating with community agencies, and teaching and facilitating field seminars. The 12-month position involves teaching three courses in the Fall, three courses in the Spring, and two courses in the Summer. Some courses may require teaching in the evenings or weekend.

Examples of potential teaching assignments include micro, mezzo, and macro-level courses (e.g., practice with individuals, families, and groups, human behavior, and practice with communities and organizations), as well as field seminars. Courses may be taught in person and/or online and may be assigned on any of the FAU campuses (Boca Raton, Jupiter, or Davie). The successful applicant will have a demonstrated commitment to: (a) excellence in teaching, (b) mentoring social work students, and (c) service to the School/College in the form of committee work and recruitment activities, and (d) working in an organization that promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

MSW from an accredited school of social work required at time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications:
Experience in teaching online.
Experience in working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Licensed to practice in the State of Florida (LCSW).
