JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of InCHIP's Director of Research Training and Development (RD), this new entry-level full-time Research Development Assistant will support UConn faculty as they prepare research proposals for external funding, navigate the IRB process, and coordinate research activities and goals. The incumbent will also assist with programmatic activities, including proposal review coordination, high-level proposal editing support, data cleaning and entry, literature reviews, and report writing. The successful candidate will apply empirical approaches and theoretical knowledge to assist faculty as they develop research projects and work towards developing external funding.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with RD leadership to establish and maintain effective working relationships with principal investigators. Develop detailed knowledge of faculty research interests and strengths.
  • Gain familiarity in funding and resource databases (both internal and external) for faculty research. Keep faculty informed of new professional resources and funding opportunities relevant to their interests and career stage.
  • Work with RD leadership to provide reports on funding opportunities, including funding success rates and projects funded by a respective opportunity.
  • Support RD leadership in the development of proposal modules and template documents for frequent and recurring grant applications.
  • Produce a weekly e-newsletter of funding opportunities relevant to InCHIP investigators.
  • Work with RD leadership on promoting and disseminating InCHIP research (e.g., social media posts, writing short articles).
  • Data cleaning and entry, literature reviews on relevant research, and report writing.
  • Provide other support to InCHIP leadership on emergent initiatives and programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. B.A. or B.S. with preference given to a health-related field.
  2. Demonstrated excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  3. Excellent organizational proficiency with great attention to detail.
  4. Ability to work independently in a diverse, fast-paced work environment.
  5. Demonstrated success in working collaboratively.
  6. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites and be open to learning other software packages as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Masters degree in social or behavioral sciences, public health, or other related fields.
  2. Experience in working in a research center or institute.
  3. Prior experience working within a university setting.
  4. Prior experience working with interdisciplinary research teams.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This position is an annually renewable appointment with the possibility of extension dependent upon program needs and available funding. The anticipated start date is November 2021.
