JOB SUMMARY

The Connecticut State Museum of Natural History (CSMNH) is seeking a full-time Program, Database, and Administrative Coordinator. Working under the direction of the CSMNH Director, the successful candidate will focus on developing and coordinating public programming, designing the Museum’s databases, data management and standardization, and various digitization efforts, and duties associated with Museum administration, publicity, and fundraising.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop public programs and associated programming in Natural History and Archaeology for K-12 and adult populations
  • Coordinate all public programs and events (including on nights and weekends)
  • Supervise Museum volunteers and student workers
  • Coordinate external partners and serve as primary resource for interdisciplinary special projects (e.g., for Broader Impact elements of National Science Foundation grants)
  • Design and develop CSMNH on-line specimen databases and user interfaces using professional Museum Data Standards
  • Oversee standardization, quality control, and ingestion of data, following accepted best practices for digitization
  • Determine priorities for Museum digitization efforts across collections
  • Responsible for all administrative duties, including all Museum Board related activities
  • Design, populate, and manage content of website
  • Assist with publicity and fundraising
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Four to five years of related experience with at least two of those years managing digital assets, user experience design, data schemas, and content standards for natural history or cultural heritage collections.
  • Proven experience coordinating, planning, and executing public programming events.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including proven experience working effectively with students, faculty, staff, or external constituents.
  • Proven organizational skills and experience working well independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience taking initiative and exercising sound judgment when interpreting and applying complex rules and policies.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
  • Experience serving as an advanced/senior team member or working as a project lead.
  • Experience working in a Natural History Museum or Higher Education environment in a university setting.
  • Experience using Macintosh computer systems and imaging equipment and software.
  • Previous experience designing and implementing websites.
