Job Details:Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Pest Control Specialist (Trade Specialist III) in the Grounds Department. Duties include, but are not limited to: determine where to place pesticides and traps; inspects campus buildings for evidence of infestations of noxious insects and fumigates when needed; select and mix sprays and insecticides according to specific formula to accomplish desired results at appropriate time and to apply at appropriate time taking into consideration the weather conditions and frequency of usage; operate and perform minor maintenance on power dusters, mist blowers, back-pack spray units, power boom sprayer tractors and other spraying equipment; responsible for chemical inventory and documentation; putting together orders for chemicals and supplies needed, and safely storing chemicals and supplies used in spray program; responsible for all required record keeping, posting, and documentation needed to stay in compliance with state and federal rules and laws, including maintaining a certified applicator pesticide license; assist with campus fertilization program; assist with campus grounds maintenance; act as university liaison on pest control issues; and perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and experience in landscape maintenance or related field with prior experience in specialized pest and/or spray control work is required. Must possess and maintain a state pesticide certificate/license to perform pest control. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. General knowledge of the relationship of the environment to pests and their control; thorough knowledge of the characteristics of the particular plant disease or weed conditions to be treated, living habits of noxious animal or insects to be exterminated.
