The Business Systems Analyst will serve as a key member of the Office of the University Registrar team. Working under general direction, perform a variety of advanced business and database analyses in many business areas; work with customers to understand and assist them in addressing advanced business and operational issues and problems; frequently perform project leadership responsibilities for assigned projects. Responsible for working with customers to translate business and operational requirements into designs and specifications for workable information technology solutions. Analyze and document business and work processes, information needs and reporting requirements, evaluate process improvements and develop systems solutions to meet requirements. Develop, communicate and coordinate applications development and other information technology services to meet requirements and specifications.

    Write system requirement and/or specification documents. Ensure business systems solutions are functional and meet requirements. Translate between customers and UTech staff to ensure all parties understand, in their terms, systems needs, requirements and technology parameters and constraints and to ensure resulting design and functionality is consistent with all requirements and specifications. Work with the PeopleSoft Security administrator and recommend applications security protocols and privileges; Develop and implement testing scenarios. Perform regression testing. Analyze systems interface requirements, coordinate the exchange of data within and outside the university. Assure accuracy and integrity for the integration and migration of data between databases. (25%)Function as the business/ project manager for large-scale technology projects and/or multiple modules, balancing multiple projects and priorities within and also across systems and customers. Design or lead a project team in developing new or enhanced systems and processes; Responsible for complete project life cycle, working independently and with emphasis on all customer facing activities. Define project scope and boundaries; perform critical path analyses and set project priorities. Develop project task lists and time estimates. Perform cost benefit analyses. Establish project metrics. Oversee and coordinate completion of project tasks to meet time, quality and cost expectations. Meet with customers to review project status and resolve development and/or implementation issues. Work significantly affects a division within a school or central administrative area. Must carefully prioritize projects and follow departmental processes. (20%)Evaluate vendor products and technology options and determine fit with customer requirements; implement best fit; recommend hardware, network and/or software characteristics and requirements; Assist in the definition and implementation of flexible, scalable methodologies for software application and infrastructure development and maintenance; with a focus on quality, time, and cost. Ensure interfaces developed by outside contractors conform with requirements. Stay abreast of developments in customer areas to anticipate emerging information management, operations and university needs. Analyze risk and future impact of decisions. Make decisions and take timely independent action in pursuit of priorities. (15%) Establish and maintain effective customer focused working relationships with managers, customers, UTech, vendors, consultants, employees and others encountered in the course of work. Train customers on how to use new applications; coordinate customer support for assigned applications; develop and maintain customer manuals for applications. Initiate and maintain documentation of Case Western Reserve University policies, processes and practices related to student information systems. (15%)Design the parameters for test environments and testing scenarios; participate in conducting systems tests and conversion and installation processes; identify types and causes of test problems and work with customers, functional leads and UTech staff to recommend and implement solutions; ensure performance of all quality assurance reviews are completed successfully; ensure newly installed applications are functioning correctly. (10%) Recommend business process, method and system redesign where applicable, acting as a champion for business process change. Act behind the scenes to craft solutions for business problems related or tangential to projects. Participate in strategy development. Recommend policy and new initiatives. Recognize problems or situations that are new or without clear precedent. Drive organizational change taking full account of obstacles, opposition, and differing stakeholder priorities. May supervise work of project team members when assigned as project lead. Provide mentoring for functional areas, IT consultants and project analysts. May also provide supervision for outside consultants and student workers. When functioning as a project team manager, ensure the project team has appropriate training and development.


Experience: 5 to 8 years of experience required: 3 to 5 years of PeopleSoft experience preferred. Experience in higher education preferred.

Education/Licensing: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science or a related field required. Master's degree preferred. IIBA Business Analysis Professional Certification preferred.

General office environment. Intense pressure for deadlines and high volume of general activity. The employee will need to lift up to 15 pounds and be able to bend/stoop, climb stairs, crouch, kneel, push/pull and reach.
