About the Institute:

The Institute is an innovative, interprofessional graduate school in Boston, MA that prepares health professionals and scientists to advance care for a diverse society through leadership in education, clinical practice, research and community engagement. The Institute has 1,636 enrolled students and offers programs in Genetic Counseling, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Professions Education (MS and PhD), Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD). The Institute is about to open a new School of Healthcare Leadership, which will add significantly to the Institute's offerings, increase enrollments, amplify the value proposition with the Mass General Brigham (MGB) health system, and build new partnerships locally and nationally.  Founded by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in 1977, the Institute is an independent institution accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

The IHP is the only degree-granting affiliate in Mass General Brigham (MGB), the largest private employer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Job Summary:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the designing, managing, and teaching courses within the designated content area or other content as negotiated, contributing to curriculum development and evaluation, providing general academic counseling to students, participating in professional and service activities and participating in scholarship commensurate with the level of appointment.

Time spent is the activity areas below are negotiated with individual faculty, but are generally considered to be:

  • Teaching: 60%. Teaches in entry-level and post-professional programs as appropriate to area of expertise and program needs.
  • Service: 20%. Serves on Department, School and Institute Committees; participates in professional activities; advises students.
  • Scholarship: 20%. Participates in scholarship activities commensurate with level of appointment
Note:  Specific responsibilities will be subject to change based on the needs and budgetary resources of the Physician Assistant Program.  Job descriptions and percentage of FTE will be reviewed and negotiated annually.



Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Faculty who are PAs must be NCCPA certified and have a minimum of a master’s degree.  Physicians must be board certified.  Basic science faculty must have a minimum of a master’s degree.   Prior academic or clinical teaching is necessary.  Four years or more of clinical experience and eligibility for PA or physician licensure in Massachusetts is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must possess an excellent command of English
  • Must have strong clinical skills as a PA
  • Must have teaching skills appropriate to a new faculty member
